Van Den Hul The Magnum MKII Hybrid Speaker Cable - Custom Length
This very attractive dark-red coloured mat finished twin-lead speaker cable is designed to produce the best transfer quality at an affordable price. Each lead consists of 483 x 0.15 mm. high purity Matched Crystal (MC) OFC strands with a dense and very pure silver coating. The resistance per lead is just: 0.21 Ohm/100 meter. The metal cross-section area for each conductor is: 8.54 mm, equalling AWG 8.
The capacitance between the 2 leads is a nice and low 27 pF/meter. Covering the 2 conductors you will find an extra Linear Structured Carbon ® saturated layer. This layer dramatically improves the sonic qualities of The MAGNUM HYBRID. The cable jacket is made of our HULLIFLEX ® 5, a very flexible and mechanically superb insulation material. The plus and minus leads are different in jacket shape with gold coloured printing in the flat middle-section. Both properties are easy polarity finders. Type printing at 25 cm. (10") distance makes cutting of specified lengths very easy.

We are pleased to offer a free cable burn-in service for this cable when purchased through us. The Nordost VIDAR cable burn-in machine combines three different functions all in one operation:
- It neutralises charges that build up around the cables and the insulation
- It provides a very wide band and deep conditioning into the conductor core, which produces changes in the way signals pass through the metal.
- It ultrasonically conditions the surface of the conductors.
The VIDAR uses a proprietary combination of composite and complex signals to condition the cables. Parts of the signal oscillate at ultra-low frequencies, while other parts are in ultra-high ranges which extend beyond the range of video frequencies. The signal bounces in a ping-ping ball-like fashion from one end of the cable to the other. During the burn-in process, ultra-low frequencies penetrate deep into the core of the cable. The ultra-high frequencies zip along the surface. This method of signal transmission a set up beat harmonics, or heterodynes, between the two complex waveforms. In the digital domain, this would be referred to as aliasing products. These beat frequencies penetrate all layers of the cable. The design of the circuitry also has a unique feature which drives electrons above the conductor into the dielectric (or insulation) area. The VIDAR not only sends ping pong signals along the cable, it also sends a similar signal from the centre core to the outer shield in the case of interconnect cables. This function neutralises the electrical charges discussed above.
So what does that all mean to me?

I have been trying various speaker cables up to £1500, but most are around £1k for recently purchased speakers ( Diapason Adamantes V). I borrowed VDH CS122 and was shocked. I bought the next model up ( different gauge—12), which was even better.
Then I bought Magnum ( gauge 8). Once I sell my Siltech copper cable, I will experiment with other VDHs further up the range, but these are exceptional, and I do wonder if I would be wasting my time.
The Magnums have a very solid sound/ presence and great imaging. The top and bass are the stars, and the Diapasons don’t need any help in the mid-range. I have also become a fan of bare wire ends.

After years of toying with the idea of Bi-Wire Mono, we decided to move the Hi-Fi tower, giving speakers a wider platform. However, our cables are now short in length and have mixed designs and manufacturers.

I purchased a pair of 2.5m cables with banana plugs, and they are a very good match with my Soul Note sa3.0 and Tannoy Autograph Mini.
They bring warmth and thickness. The mids are very attractive, and the treble has a beautiful roll-off, not harsh or loud.

I have had the excellent VanDenHul CS-122 & Tea Track cables tri-amp feeding my old Ruark Crusader II. In the past couple of years, ATC SCM40 speakers, after 24 years, were well burnt in, and as part of an AV centre speaker upgrade from a KEF to an ATC C1C, I purchased this excellent speaker cable.
The ATC speaker is on order (they are manufactured for individual orders), but even with the old KEF, a noticeable improvement from the ancient AudioQuest cable.

This cable answered all the lacking qualities of the vdh CS-122 which I used before buying this cable. Don't get me wrong, the CS-122 is a great loudspeaker cable for the price. What you get from the vdh The Magnum is a better natural sounding and presentation of music. Mids and voices are clear and not overemphasized, highs are detailed and extended without being harsh or bright and bass was controlled, tight and not bloated.
If you are willing to spend an extra for a loudspeaker cable, this is highly recommended to include in your list. There are lots of cables out there that are way more expensive, but will not be able to deliver what this magnum can do for your listening pleasure.

In one particular room I was taken aback by the tactile dynamic live sound emanating from the speakers, for me it was one of the best sounds of the show and the whole system was less than £5,000 ! The speakers were manufactured by Usher and were only £2,000 a pair, I had heard them several times before but not sounding as open and “liveâ€? like this. The cabling was all Van Den Hul and the speaker cable was Van Den Hul Magnum.
So I decided to track down the speaker cable to see if this cable could transform my system.
I phoned Futureshop and spoke with Adam, one of the most helpful and knowledgeable guys I have dealt with. He spent 30 minutes on the phone explaining all about Futureshop and the service they offered. Within 24 hours the Magnum had been terminated, packed and shipped to me first class recorded, an incredible service.
Now to the sound............my system is somewhat more expensive than the one at Whittlebury and all my previous hi-end cables i had tried with my Wilson System 7 Speakers were very good but too refined for my taste and didn’t have that tactileness that I heard at the show.Something was missing and I also had a bit of harshness in the top end.
After 24 hours I was in disbelief that I was listening to the same system. The bass had fleshed out with a propulsiveness I had not heard before in my system. Vocals were the most lifelike I have heard and the treble now had that tactile feel that I heard at Whittlebury !!
