“Having inaugurated an awards season for 2022, it seemed appropriate to acknowledge some key pieces of HiFi equipment that have passed through HF&MS over the preceding nine years. There have been just three ‘Night and Day’ moments over this period. These experiences are usually unexpected and simply tangible, where you just think; ‘blimey, this is really really good!’

I was one of those who appreciated cables were important but I had no idea how profound the introduction of a medium to high-end cable could be and the Ultra Black II is by no means Tellurium Q’s best cable.” (Read More)

“To be honest, sometimes I do struggle to hear meaningful differences between one brand and another or one model and another within a manufacturer’s offerings. However, I was genuinely taken aback when I first installed the Tellurium Q Ultra Black II speaker cables.”

TQ Ultra Black II Speaker 5 World Review in Hi-Fi World

“If you have the original Tellurium Q Ultra Black then this update might take you aback. It doesn’t just improve on the original it takes the sound on in leaps and bounds…… I heard the same effect on every track I played – leading me to believe that there is something special going on with these Ultra Black IIs…..
Tellurium Q’s Ultra Black II’s can be see as one of the best loudspeaker cables on the market at their price”

Tellurium Q Ultra Black Equipment Review Hi-Fi+

"The character of the speaker cables is distinctly pacy; this is very much a rhythm-oriented cable, where timing is given top billing regardless of the music being played. And this makes it very engaging and powerful; my foot started tapping of its own accord and I found myself swept up with the groove on all manner of tracks. Adding the Ultra Black II RCA interconnect reinforced this balance and opened up the soundstage, cymbal splashes became more
obvious, and guitar notes more pronounced. It’s very much a leading edge cable, but avoids the forwardness that other cables of its ilk tend to introduce."

Hi-Fi+ Equipment Review - Issue 174

"The bottom line for the new Ultra Black II cables is better value for money, especially when compared to the original designs. That is, the new designs give you more in terms of detail from the upper and lower frequencies but they also enhance and restructure how that detail is delivered to the ear, doing it from a airy and more spacious soundstage that adds new fullness and splendour to the presentation"

Paul Rigby (The Audiophile Man) - May 2019

"The detail, the microdynamics, the musicality, the excitement, the scale of the music, are all massively enhanced through the Ultra Black II. I have a stack of vinyl down from my shelves, just waiting to be played. I am hearing so much deeper into the mix of recordings which I have listened to for years." (Read More)

“It was like when I upgraded my TV from an HD LED set to an Ultra High Definition 4K set. The differences were stunning…..What I can state is that the Ultra Black 11 cables are currently the best I have heard in my system
The Ultra Black II’s allow our ears and brain to work as they would in a live environment picking out every nuance and sound cues to create that actual experience, not a close approximation. Let’s just say I was hearing so much more into the performance. I genuinely was hearing microscopic details I just didn’t know we there before”

“The extension is incredibly clean and natural and I must say that I didn’t manage to find that in another cable until now… I’ve been listening to some live recordings which were incredibly real, from the sounds in the audiences, to the voices and instruments on the stage. Even the clapping was hauntingly lifelike, putting me right there in front of the audience.”

Dan-Alexandru Gheorghe - Head Mania

"naturalness , timbres and dynamics of these connectors are so remarkable that my packing and sending back is really very, very difficult - if it even still happens.”

Frank Neu - fidelity-magazin.de August 2015

Steve Dickenson - Hi Fi Plus Awards issue 2010

“What the Ultra Blacks will do for your record collection is to both extract the fine detail from within and reveal its personality. The Ultra Blacks will lay bare your music, getting under the skin of each recording.”

Paul Rigby - HiFi World 2010

“It is hard to understand what has happened here, the last few weeks of exposure to Tellurium Q have
changed my perception of HiFi and what can be achieved. I have no technical things to point to but all I
can say is just have a listen if you think this review is hyperbole. I can guarantee, if your system is up

Enhance Your Experience: Free Cable Burn-In Service with Nordost VIDAR Machine

Please take note of the following details regarding our cable burn-in service:

  • Cable Compatibility: We regret to inform you that we cannot burn-in cables with stripped bare ends or BFA plugs. In order for cables to undergo the burn-in process, they should be terminated or have connectors.
  • Timing: Cables will be burnt in for the selected period after processing your order. For custom-length cables, the burn-in process will occur after they have been terminated by the manufacturer or our engineers unless specified otherwise in the product description.
  • Availability: Future Shop provides our cable burn-in service free of charge, but its availability is at our discretion. While we strive to fulfil all burn-in requests for the specified time periods, please understand that during exceptionally busy periods, we may be unable to meet the demand due to limited connections on the Nordost Vidar cable conditioning machines.

The Nordost VIDAR cable burn-in machine integrates three key functions into one operation:

  1. Charge Neutralisation: It eliminates charges that accumulate around the cables and their insulation, ensuring a more balanced electrical environment.
  2. Deep Conditioning: The machine provides a wide band and deep conditioning process that affects the conductor core, resulting in changes to the signal transmission through the metal. This deep conditioning enhances the cable's performance.
  3. Ultrasonic Surface Conditioning: The VIDAR machine utilizes ultrasonic waves to condition the surface of the conductors, optimizing their contact and overall conductivity.

The VIDAR employs a proprietary combination of composite and complex signals to condition the cables. These signals comprise ultra-low and ultra-high frequencies, extending beyond the range of video frequencies. The signal moves back and forth along the cable, penetrating deep into the core with ultra-low frequencies and traversing the surface with ultra-high frequencies. This transmission method generates beat harmonics between the two complex waveforms, which permeate all layers of the cable. The circuitry of the VIDAR also drives electrons from the conductor into the insulation area, neutralizing electrical charges.

Nordost Vidar Burn-in Machine

So, what does this all mean for you?

The ultimate outcome of conditioning cables with the Nordost VIDAR is improved sound staging, increased detail, and an overall more musical presentation in your audio system.

Now, you may wonder why cable burn-in is necessary. During cable manufacturing, gasses become trapped as insulation is applied over the conductors. Additionally, new cables often possess high electrical charges, resulting in a brittle and bright sound that lacks the desired detail and depth for music production.

When cables undergo burn-in, the trapped gasses are dissipated, and small impurities in the conductor metals begin to exhibit diode-like behaviour, favouring current flow in a specific direction.

Here are the physical effects of the burn-in process:

  • Charge Neutralisation: The burn-in process neutralizes charges in the conductors and insulation, promoting a more balanced electrical environment.
  • Wide Bandwidth Frequencies: The conditioning affects how signals pass through the metal, enabling a wider range of frequencies to penetrate all cable layers.
  • Signal Transmission: The burn-in process establishes the directionality of the cable, optimizing signal transmission from one end to the other.

When cables are properly burnt in, you can expect the following audible changes in your audio system:

  • Fuller and Natural Sound: Your system should be capable of producing a more immersive and realistic performance with a fuller and more natural sound.
  • Increased Detail: You may notice enhanced details and nuances in the music, allowing you to perceive subtle elements that were previously hidden.
  • Improved Soundstage: The dimensionality of your system's soundstage can be greatly improved, creating a more spacious and immersive listening experience.

At Future Shop, our goal is to maximise your satisfaction. That's why we offer a free burn-in service on all our cables before they arrive at your door, enabling you to sit back and enjoy the benefits of properly conditioned cables in your audio system.

Oh no, not another 5 star review!

What I really wanted to write was an excoriating essay of invective, bemoaning these cables as massively hyped by the press and hugely overpriced, but well…I can’t, because it wouldn’t be true, not by a very, very, very long way.

Quite simply, I had to search my mind (and my dictionary) to find superlatives which would convey the transcendental transformation changing my beloved 12-year-old TQ Black I’s to the Ultra Black II’s has wrought upon my listening experience via my ProAc D20R speakers (bi-amped).

The 96hr VIDAR burn-in, kindly provided for by the always excellent Futureshop team, is essential - to which (as many others have said elsewhere on these pages) you need to add at least another 104 hours of continuous looped playback (the TQ system disc helps) to reach their full potential.

The depth of the sound stage has increased profoundly; the rendition of voice artists (try Mediterraneo by L’Arpeggiata) is astonishingly accurate and visceral, as are the timbres and attack of stringed instruments, rhythm and timing - spot on, musicality - magnificent…I could go on, but I fear I have taken up too much of your time, dear reader and seeker of superlative sound. Yes, the cost is eye-watering, but if you think of the TQ UB2’s as a component upgrade rather than ‘just’ cables, then it makes some sense; well, to me, it does, and given that these might be the last speaker cables that I ever buy, good value for money - made in Britain too! Three cheers for Tellurium Q…!!!

Moved from 3.5m TQ UB II cables to the same but 5m length
11 Feb 2024
Verified Buyer
Moving from 3.5m TQ UB II cables to the same but 5m length has been a revelation, even before (apparently) being run in. I swapped my old cables into my second system with the arrival of new, more modern Speakers (Kudos S20As) into that system: The cables are maybe 3 years old, and the effect was stunning - the new Speaker/old cable combination is fantastic.

The new, longer cables of the same spec have not been 'run in' - at my request - as I wanted to do this, but the new cables need no running in! I wonder whether the extra length has made a material difference - or whether the latest spec TQ UB IIs have been quietly upgraded? The new, un-run-in 5m cables are performing at least as well, if not better, as their shorter-length older brothers.

Both systems are running better than before!

Somewhere between Magic and Alchemy.

Well, these speaker cables are so special I'm scared to hear further up the ranges. I upgraded from Chord Epic (lovely airiness but very two-dimensional) to black MK 2, which gave me more body and dimensionality, but as I upgraded, my system felt like the weakest link.

Upgrading to the TQ Ultra Black MK 2 + jumpers really opened up my current speakers. Dimensionality and imaging were hugely improved, and I was dubious moving from what I considered to be excellent TQ Black MK IIs. Worth every penny.

As the summary says, these sound like something created with magick and alchemy. Sublime.

Great deep sound and fantastic sales advice from future shop

We all know choosing speaker cable is a minefield, there are so many choices; what will work with your system, cost, and what sound are you after? Where to start? Phone futureshop, the chap I spoke to (Andy?) spent 30 mins listening and advising.

I plumped for the Tellurium Q ultra black ll, having read up and drawn a shortlist. I was not disappointed. Deep pumping bass (number 1 aim), detail, the lot. From opening the box, they scream quality, I took the free 96-hour burn-in, and having added 20 hours or so since arrival, I can confirm they just keep getting deeper. Thanks!! I will definitely be back...

I was using Black II and asked Mark for a recommendation. Mark told me, "you will find that the Ultra Black II will give much more of what the Black II delivers. It has the same family sound but more of it." It is true. I love this cable a lot.

A Million thanks to the assistance of Future Shop. They do follow up with me about the delivery issue. Definitely, I will purchase this shop again. They are really, really helpful. I feel warmed.

Naim system 552, I swapped out the original Naim speaker cables, and after a lot of thinking about these cables, I took the plunge!!

Adam told me, "You won't be disappointed" after a long wait for a non-standard cable length. HE WAS RIGHT never knew how good the speakers could actually sound. Everything is soo much better, musicality, base, timbre.

Good service and good information as always from Futureshop - Thank you!

Exceptional
4 Apr 2022
Verified Buyer
My previous Atlas speaker cables delivered a good all-around performance, but the performance from these Ultra Black Ⅱ speaker cables by Tellurium Q is exceptional!

Having swapped out my previous interconnects for the Ultra BlackⅡ's, I waited for a while before swapping out the speaker cables to first experience the change in the presentation made just by the interconnects. It took a lot of patience because I was so astounded by the difference the change of interconnects alone made that I wanted to hear the 'full Monty' immediately. A week later, I attached the UltranBlack Ⅱ speaker cables and was immediately blown away, as I honestly didn't think the system had any more to give. However, these Ultra Black Ⅱ's delivered an astounding quality of sound that, combined with the Ultra Black Ⅱ interconnects, have taken my listening experience to a whole new and exciting level.

Well done, Geoff Merrigan and team. Amazing products!!

Unbelievable Sounding Cable
18 Feb 2022
Verified Buyer
I bought these cables on the recommendation of Futureshop. I am glad I bought them. I had been using AQ Gibraltar 2 into 4 bi-wiring. Good sounding cable.

When the Ultra Blacks arrived, I installed the Ultra Blacks after 96 hours of burn-in before shipment. I must say that I was underwhelmed. The treble was a bit harsh, and the bass was a bit muddled. I had been warmed, "give them 200 hours before critically listening to them". I installed them with plus and minus into tweeter posts and then used ultra-black jumpers to the woofer posts. I then tried a way of connecting cables called cross-connecting. Plus into tweeter and minus into woofer and then use the jumpers. It did sound a little bit better, so I left them.

It is now about 300 hours on the cables. What a difference! Clear, musical and like having a new pair of speakers. I probably would have returned them if I hadn't had the warning about burn-in time. It is a big investment but worth every £. I was thinking of buying new speakers, no longer.

All those out there who say it is snake oil must be half deaf or have never tried it for themselves.

Thank you, Futureshop, for the excellent service and recommendation.

This cable is a fantastic upgrade, hats off to Tellurium Q

I upgraded from previously well reviewed cable to the TQ black ii in 2019, the difference in the timing was significant. The trouble is you start looking up the food chain, i looked and heard the Ultra Black ii at a demo and despite the cost i felt i had to upgrade, i have now upgraded my speaker cable, digital and RCA cables to the ultra black ii's, as previously mentioned in reviews these cables take some time to really come on song [ 200 hrs ] .

Now that they are up and running these cables are fantastic, the timing and space these cables afford is remarkable, the top end has become more extended and sweeter, any harshness i used to experience has gone, the bass is weighty without booming, the textures of drums and strings are more prominent than I'm used to, vocals are more expressive.

I am very pleased with these cables and would have to win the lottery big time to consider changing these cables.

I've had these a month or so and held off reviewing until they had settled in. Shifting from the TQ black 2 (great cables too) to these was remarkable. Initially the mid range seemed a bit bleached out by the improved bass but now they really do sound great: pacy, with a sense of the bass just going deeper, with loads of warm treble detail too.

I'm using them with Kef ls50s which sounds a bit crazy, since the cables cost more than the speakers; but the combination is agile and room filling. I'd rank these cables among the best hifi buys I've made. Hard to fault - - though note they are pretty thick and inflexible.

Astonishing upgrade to the sound of my system

I bought these on a recommendation from the staff at Future Shop. They were ordered, without burn-in, and fitted to my system within 24hrs. That's the way to do it, thank you.

My system consists of a vintage Sony CDP-555ESD, Roksan Blak amp and Focal Aria 936 loudspeakers. The speaker cables replaced were Chord Epics.

To save time read the other reviews. No one is using hyperbole, they are all that.

In terms of the sheer joy these cables give they are not expensive. Fit these cables to your system, your soul will thank you!

Tellurium Q Ultra Black 'MAGIC' ll
30 May 2020

I first tried TQ cables a couple of years ago when I purchased the TQ Black ll speaker cables and 'WOW' how they transformed my system. Previously I had used Atlas Hyper which is a fine cable but in my opinion the TQ is in a class of it's own.

Now on to TQ Ultra Black ll which is the reason for my review. A couple of months ago in 'lock down' blues after reading numerous positive reviews relating to TQUB ll I decided to take the plunge. Thanks to Futureshop's return policy this was an experiment I could take.

My system is Cyrus comprising of CDi and Pre dac both hooked up to PSXR's and two X Power's in mono. My speakers are Spendor D7's. I wanted a speaker cable that would be open and neutral but not bright as Cyrus are renowned for the agility of their products.

Once run in for approx 120 hours I sat down for a serious listen. The vocals are front and centre but not overwhelming allowing the rest of the music to flourish. Bass is plenty full but tight and controlled and by no way 'boomy'. Percussion and reverb is outstanding. The 'splash' of a cymbal or a rim shot on drums are beautifully evident. Piano and bass guitar reverb is so lifelike the band could be in your front room. TQUB ll is exceptional at a 3D imagery placing drums behind the vocals and letting you visualise where each member of the band was during the recording. In short the whole sound stage is totally opened up. From Allison Krauss to Led Zepp these cables perform.

I have read that the guy at TQ has a background in chemistry which may give them a different approach to research and development............and it's working.
I know these cables are not cheap by any means but for the first time I believe I am extracting nearly everything my system has to offer. If you give them a trial, beware you may well be hooked!!!

My stereo system is transformed.

My stereo system is transformed.. I recently installed this HP cable on my stereo system. Obviously the cables are not yet burnt-in, but I can already say that the sound of my system has been transformed in all respects. I had very average cables compared to the level of my system. Evolution MASTERSOUND amp 845, ICOS CD player, DAC AUDIOMAT MAESTRO 3 REFERENCE.

The sound has increased in density, in clarity, the bass are well held and tense, the mediums are stunning and treble more present but never tiring. I do not regret my purchase. Yet I hesitated a lot when I bought ESPRIT cables. From days to days the sound improves. In principle, a break-in of 70 hours is necessary to benefit from the best performance of these cables.

I highly recommend these cables.

OMG. I’ve now had the ultra speaker cables for over a week. I upgraded to to the Ultra XLR connects and jumper cables at the same time. I must admit that my B&W 803 Diamonds have never sounded so good.

The sound stage has vastly improved and the clarity between the instruments is quite remarkable. Happy days.

When I first tried the Black II it was an immediate revelation that it sounds drastically superior. For the Ultra Black, it took me about a week to conclude its sound was more rounded, The best analogy I could use is that the Blk II is an energetic young man, and the UB is a seasoned and sophisticated gentlemen.

This review starts with the Tellurium-Q Black Spea.....

This review starts with the Tellurium-Q Black Speaker cables, then moves on to the Ultra-Black Speaker cables and the Ultra-Black Interconnect cable.

I had being making do with the cheap, best buy speaker cables I bought in the 90s for far too long. I finally bought the Tellurium-Q Black Speaker cables that I had ear marked years before. The improvement was dramatic; every facet of the music improved but especially the bass. I was delighted with the cables and my only wish is that I had bought them much sooner. For the price I would recommend these speaker cables without hesitation.

Enthused by this improvement I borrowed some Ultra- Black Speaker cables from Future Shop (which is where I bought the Black Speaker cables from). This took a little bit of arranging as I bi-amp my speakers so two sets of trial cables were needed , but the chaps at Future Shop were very helpful and managed to find them and get them to me. My intent with the home demonstration of the UBs was to satisfy my curiosity rather than buy them. Unfortunately the UBs sound significantly better than the Blacks. Describing changes & improvements in music is difficult – and very subjective - so I will keep it short and focus on the main differences of the UBs over the Blacks. The resolution & naturalness of the bass was better and there was even a slight extension in the bass. The improvement in the bass was quite a surprise given the huge improvement the Blacks had already given. The other major change was the huge increase in mid-range detail, even in the busiest pieces of music every instrument is audible and clearly defined with a lovely openness. (The UB Speaker cables quickly reveal poorly recorded CDs.)
But was it worth the BIG step-up in price ? After 2 long weekends of listening I packed up the UBs and re-connected my Blacks. This is when I finally decided. The same Black cables that had “delighted me only a few weeks previously were now – rather disappointing. I bought the UBs.
The UBs are undoubtedly better than the Blacks but whether they are worth the extra cost is less clear cut. So, I would recommend a home listening using loan cables from Future Shop but only if you can afford them, because you are going to want to buy them.

Whilst exchanging the Black speaker cables for my new UBs from Future Shop I decided to buy the matching UB-Interconnect for the CD player to the pre-amp. My existing interconnect was from the early 2000s, a well-reviewed, low to mid-price cable, but the UB interconnect still gave a very discernible improvement. The Black speaker cables had got rid of the slightly harsh sibilance I had endured so long, in addition to the improvements outlined above the UB speaker cables had given the upper range an open and mellifluous feel. The UB –Interconnect seemed to confer that spaciousness and mellifluousness all the way down to the bass.

Although I have paused a bit in my cable upgrading I have decided the power cables are next. And I will use Future Shop to help me with that. They have all been friendly and helpful and appear genuinely enthusiastic about cables. And the home trial facility for certain cables has resulted in my ending up with the UB Speaker cables – for which I am truly grateful.

Having drastically upgraded all my Hi Fi component.....

Having drastically upgraded all my Hi Fi components over the past year I decided to upgrade both the RCA's from my Lector reference Digicode DAC & speaker cables .
Having demoed Audience 24se, Townshend Isoda's & Fractals along with the excellent Kimber Monocle XL being the last & by far the best compared to the other 2 which while being highly reviewed over many years offered no comparison to the Kimbers.
In fact the Kimbers were so good I rang Gary to cancel my Tellurium Ultra Black order, he said that numerous people had said the TQ's were better & I should at least listen before making an informed decision.
Once hooked up to my primarily tube system one thing became apparent immediately is they sounded so much more detailed & realistic compared to the Kimbers .
After a week of bedding in the TQ's transformed being much warmer & transient with all instruments separated with every detail , quite frankly they are in another league to any other brand out there which includes Nordost & Synergistic Research which I have 2 of their top XLR & XLR EBU cables which while being excellent, not in the same league.
In terms of value for money I would of happily pay 2-3 times for the Ultra Blacks for what they offer in terms of sheer sound quality, they clearly are doing something very special as every cable has won numerous awards since launching & even most wanted component in the US 2 years running where most of the top brands are.
I have a feeling I will be changing all my cables to TQ when funds allow - they really are that exceptional

These are the best speaker cables I've had since .....

Verified Buyer
These are the best speaker cables I've had since I got my Hifi Setup, the soundstage for all types of music is so open you can hear every instrument being played without them all kind of mushing together like other cables. Sometimes I've noticed the vocals are a little laid back and don't push you into your seat like previous cables but this I think is better on some recordings as it lets you hear everything and the vocals don't overwhelm the song. Tried with vinyl and Hi Res Downloads as well as CD Quality music. I started off with Stevie Wonder and an original copy of Songs In The Key Of Life on vinyl and it really did just mesmorise me with Stevie's vocals and the rest of the music. I ordered the product on a Friday and within 10 days I had received it and had it playing in my system, I went for the 72 hour burn in but this was my own fault as I was open to get it for the weekend and really should have got the 96 hour burn in as it would have arrived on the same day. I am hoping the more its used it will get even better as it gets used to my whole setup. Really cannot fault the service or quality of these cables, they are expensive certainly if you need longer lengths but if you can save up for them they are a very worthy addition to any system. Of course as with all cables, gear they should be tested by yourself in a system before buying in case their sound isn't to your taste. My last point I've only had them 2 days and I honestly think there is such a big difference compared to my previous cables which were Black Rhodium Samba VS'1s.
