The Omega range from Shunyata Research represents the absolute pinnacle of their digital cables, introducing dual hybrid TAP/Cmode filters - he TAP polarizer reduces polarization distortion while the CMode filter simultaneously reduces high-frequency noise distortion. This cable also features proprietary ArNi ® VTX, OFE and OCC conductors, and like all Shunyata Research cables it undergoes 4 days of their KPIP processing.
High-speed digital transmission is very different from audio frequency signal transmission and requires a different knowledge base and design criteria. Audio cable signal transmission is governed by the principles of inductance, capacitance, and resistance. By contrast, high-speed digital signals are governed by a principle known as ‘transmission line theory’.
The performance of a transmission line is governed by the characteristic impedance of the cable. Certain types of cable require a specific characteristic impedance to achieve optimal performance — for instance, cable TV coaxial cables are 75 ohms, while test equipment cables require 50 ohm cables. Modern audio and entertainment systems may have multiple digital connections, each with potentially different characteristic impedances.
While the characteristic impedance is a critical factor in the optimal performance of digital cables, our research also indicates that the precision with which a digital cable is constructed has a significant impact on its performance.
Superficially, digital cables may look the same as analog cables. For example, a S/PDIF cable can be terminated with RCA connectors, much like analog interconnects. Because the terminations appear the same, analog interconnects could be used as a substitute for a digital cable; but since it has not been designed with the correct characteristic impedance, the performance will suffer.
Omega AES/EBU
The Omega is the finest AES/EBU cable ever produced by Shunyata Research. Its innovative and proprietary technologies reduce cable-induced jitter and time smear that otherwise limits the ultimate performance potential of digital playback. The Omega AES/EBU clearly allows more information to come through with a quieter background, crystalline clarity and improved micro-to-macro dynamics that may startle even the most experienced listener.

PMZ - Shunyata Research digital cables are produced using a Precision Matched Impedance cable geometry. This means that tolerances of the conductor surface, dielectric extrusion, and the precision of the braided shield are held to minute variances. To achieve these tight tolerances, the extrusion and braiding machines must be run at one-quarter speed during the manufacturing process. The result is better performance through a reduction of cable-induced signal jitter. |
ArNi® wire was designed by Shunyata Research to be the finest quality wire available. It begins with the highest purity of copper and silver metals available, including Ohno (single crystal), PCOCC silver and OFE C0101 conductors. Fluorocarbon dielectrics, usually only found in aerospace applications that have exceptional electrical characteristics including extremely low dielectric absorption, high dielectric strength and superb heat resistance. When used in digital wiring it significantly reduces transient energy storage and release which affects phase noise performance.
Shunyata Research’s exclusive VTX™ conductors are made in the shape of virtual tubes. The core of the conductor is completely hollow minimizing skin effects and random eddy currents. They are produced using OFE Alloy-101.
Ohno wire, also called PCOCC was invented in 1986 by professor Atsumi Ohno of the Chiba Institute of Technology in Japan. Copper wire is created by an extrusion process that pulls a rod of cold copper through a small orifice which creates multiple crystalline boundaries. By contrast, Ohno wire is made by a process using heated molds that cast a wire to form a single crystalline structure. Ohno wire is well known for its exceptionally pure, grain-free sonic qualities.
For the purest signal possible, Shunyata Research has combined its patent-pending TAP technology (trans-axial polarizer) and CMode filter (common mode filtering technology) into a single hybrid module. The TAP polarizer reduces polarization distortion while the CMode filter simultaneously reduces high-frequency noise distortion, delivering analog ease and palpable background silence that will close the gap between digital and analog front-end performance.

Kinetic Phase Inversion Processing was developed by Caelin Gabriel after years of research into the underlying causes of various effects such as burn-in, wire directionality and the effects of cryogenic treatment. He discovered that there was an underlying core principle that burn-in and cryogenics only partially addressed. Once the governing principle was understood it became possible to create a processor that reduces the need for long burn-in periods and eliminates the effects of cryogenic treatment. Four-days of continuous KPIP™ processing dramatically reduces the sonic ups and downs associated with burn-in, delivering a relaxed and natural presentation. |
PMZ Connectors
Pulse timing is critical to digital transmission accuracy. It is critical that a digital connector’s impedance precisely match the cables's characteristic impedance. A mismatched connector will create signal reflections which increases digital jitter or phase noise. A 50-ohm cable requires a 50-ohm termination — not the commonly used 75-ohm connector. Shunyata Research is careful to ensure that every cable and connector are precisely matched for a seamless component to component connection.
Founded in 1997 by Caelin Gabriel, Shunyata Research is a science and research-based company dedicated to enhancing the music listening experience. Gabriel's passion for improving his audio system led to the creation of Shunyata Research, which has since grown into an internationally acclaimed high-performance electrical and cabling system manufacturer. Shunyata Research empowers signal-critical electronic systems to achieve unprecedented performance levels, focusing on removing noise, optimising signal paths, and eliminating impedance. Shunyata Research's state-of-the-art manufacturing and design facility spans 18,000 square feet and is located just outside Seattle, in Washington State. The company offers a comprehensive range of products across various categories, including digital cables such as USB cables, audio cables, power cables, grounding products, and power distributors.
