Fits Where Other Record Clamps Dare Not Go

If your turntable dust cover doesn't have enough height to accommodate most record clamps, we've got great news. The new Record Doctor Low Profile Record Clamp is only 1.1" tall. It fits were other record clamps dare not go! Be sure to measure the clearance between your LP record and turntable dustcover before ordering to ensure a proper fit.

The Record Doctor Low Profile Record Clamp is a useful accessory for vinyl LP fans and audiophiles alike who want to extract maximum performance from their records. It tightly bonds the vinyl record to the platter, holding the record firmly in place and improving sound by reducing LP slippage and unwanted resonances. The effect is especially helpful when playing record where bass vibrations or high frequency resonances are an issue, when playing slightly warped records, or when recording your vinyl to a digital computer file. Also, due to increased LP stability, a record clamp helps reduce both stylus and record wear, extending the life of both.

Low Mass Design – Way Better Than A Record Weight

To extract maximum sonic performance from vinyl, most high-end turntables now come with record clamps rather than record weights because a record clamp has several advantages over record weights. Weighing only 5.4 ounces (153 grams), the Record Doctor Record Clamp’s low mass design does not apply excessive stress to turntable bearings like record weights can, improving bearing performance and life expectancy. The clamp’s gentle action won't damage LP labels.

Beautifully Designed And Engineered

The Record Doctor Record Clamp is beautifully designed and engineered with a black non-resonant phenolic body. The collet, made of carbon structural steel, clamps tightly to most turntable spindles, while the textured stainless steel knob allows for precise clamping pressure.

Won't Mar Record Labels

The gentle action of the clamp and the smooth, nonabrasive phenolic material is kind to records and won't mar LPs labels. Record Doctor also went the extra step of adding a soft felt ring to the outer edge of the underside of the clamp.

Good looking, reasonably well built clamp

Verified Buyer
I have given the clamp a 4-star rating because I think the manufacturer could have been a bit more helpful with the dimensions and clearances required, and the inside of the clamp could have had a smoother finish.

Five-star rating for Futureshops' service.

It took a lot of searching on the net to discover some critical dimensions before purchasing this particular clamp. Firstly, spindle diameters can vary from the nominal 7.2mm (anywhere between 7.1-7.3). Secondly, the spindle height left above the record for the clamp to grab onto is a critical missing dimension.

I am using a Thorens TD160 Super that I purchased in the 1980s. It has an audio ref turntable mat of 2.4mm (it has a rebate for the record label) sitting on top of the platter. In this configuration, I have 5.6mm of spindle height protruding above a 180g LP (worst-case scenario, I think); there is a small rounding to the top. The clamp will just work without exerting a lot of downward pressure. All other combinations worked fine. (all dimensions were taken with digital Vernier). The low-profile version fits under the plinth cover with a large amount of clearance.

Because of the type of turntable, I wanted to try a clamp rather than a weight.

When I first tried the clamp, even fully loosened, it was far too tight to slip onto the spindle (the Thorens spindle diameter is 7.2mm). Thankfully, as the unit comes completely apart, it was simple to remove the unevenness of the inside of the clamp with the aid of some rolled-up 800 wet and dry. It may have been possible to try opening the four sections of the clamp to increase the clearance, but this looked a more risky option and less precise.

Did it make a difference sonically? Well, I am 70 years old, and my hearing is still good, but it will have rolled off at the top end and probably elsewhere, too, so I am not the best judge. However, I did notice a slight tightening and clarity in the bass. It is still early days, but I continue to use it, and it adds a bit more ritual that those of us who enjoy playing records seem to like!
