Having changed my speakers this year I kept my QED Silver Anniversary XT for a while to see how it worked on my Quad S2s after the previous vintage floorstanders. The answer: not very well, with too much brightness, not very well controlled bass, and a lack of body to the sound.

However, the change to QED XT40i has brought about a major transformation for me, reducing the brightness and top end "hash", adding a lot of punch across the range, filling out the mid-range, and adding a surprising amount of depth and control to the bass. The change from a silver-plated, thin (1.5mm sq) cable to a copper 4.0mm sq cable has suggested that I did do the right thing with my loudspeaker change after all. Only question now is whether I dig down the back of the sofa to find the cash for bi-wiring...
