X-Tube™ TechnologyAt low frequencies both X-Tube™ and conventional stranded/solid core speaker cables convey signals in a linear way. However, at high frequencies, X-TubeTM retains a near-linear signal transfer, whereas the conventional cables fail to conduct uniformly across the entire conductor area. In standard speaker cables at high frequencies current flow is highest at the periphery with rapidly deteriorating current density towards the centre of the conductor. The effect of this is to reduce the actual cross sectional area of the cable at 15kHz to less than 75% of that at low frequencies. This results in higher distortion and compromises the performance of the cable. X-TubeTM with polycore technology exhibits much lower self-inductance and is therefore less affected by this problem. The polycore technology reduces loop inductance to levels only achievable using more costly and difficult to terminate cables. The result is more high frequency detail, less distortion and greater performance. |

Termination
This cable is professionally terminated by Futureshop's expert engineers using QED's superb 24 Carat gold plated AIRLOC termination plugs.
AIRLOC is QED's specialised loudspeaker termination method and offers the very best termination with QED speaker cables. This is a solder-free, airtight fusion between the cable and plug offering optimum signal transfer, excellent signal quality and perfect long-term performance.
QED’s AIRLOC FORTE metal banana and spade plugs deliver a superior performance over many plugs offered by rival manufacturers for the following reasons. Firstly, the plug is crimped around the conductors under high pressure using a special tool supplied by QED. No soldering is used and as a result the conductors are in contact with the plug 360 degrees which maximises the surface area contact. Furthermore, the banana plug itself is in contact with the binding post again at 360 degrees. The net effect of this is it maximises the signal transfer from the plug into your equipment and hence a superior performance. When bare wire is used not all the conductors are in contact with the binding post and as a result some loss occurs.
Unfortunately the metal barrels for the AIRLOC spades were discontinued in 2012 however we still use genuine QED’s AIRLOC spade plugs with genuine QED heat shrinks over the spade plugs. This ensures every QED speaker cable comes fully terminated with the best of QED's engineering.

I got bored with my cumbersome biwire cables and decided to go monowire instead, so splashed out on QED XT40 speaker plus jumper cables. I'm increasingly sceptical that speaker biwiring has any listening benefit at all, and this purchase confirms that suspicion.
My old cables were ok, but the flabby, poorly controlled bass was driving me nuts. I had to use the tone controls on my amp to compensate for unwanted and sometimes strident bass colouration. On playing music through the QEDs though, it became apparent that the tone controls were no longer necessary. I just press the defeat button, leave it there, and let the new cables do the controlling for me – in all music genres I listen to. Everything seems cleaner and more detailed. The mid/upper register can get a little harsh at higher volumes - my only criticism.
My old album favourites like Talk Talk’s “Laughing Stock” and "Spirit of Eden" now have a new lease of life. Mark Hollis’ voice sounds even more beautiful and expressive. The ride cymbals stand out in sounding delicate and detailed rather than a fizzly incoherent high frequency mush. The atmosphere and ambience of this album has been transformed, and all the musical light and dark is now there to hear and absorb – and to even get quite emotional about. I’m looking forward to blowing the dust off the other old favourites to see what else I’ve been missing.
I don’t normally write reviews about shops, but this one is a deserving exception. I got Futureshop to burn-in the cables for 72 hours and to fit QED Airloc bananas, with spades on the jumper cables. Delivery was lightning-fast with everything packaged up well and protected. Futureshop is one of those outfits that you feel really wants to help, and who still respects the now fading concept of customer satisfaction; long may that continue, and good on them!

He recibido en un breve espacio de tiempo el Cable de altavoz QED XT40 junto con los Jumpers, en principio yo tenia colocado las chapitas en mis JAMO CONCERT 8. El resultado con los Jumpers es fant?¡stico, igual que el acabado del producto. El ?ºnico inconveniente es que el di?¡metro de los spaces se queda escaso para mis conectores, pero se soluciona f?¡cilmente insertando la mitad del spade por el agujero del conector. La calidad del sonido gana bastante, quitando las chapas que traen los altavoces, sustituy?©ndoles por trozos de cable del mismo altavoz.

I received these jumper cables two days ago. In spite of their short length, they are performing better now after a reasonable number of hours in use and I'm very happy with the sound they're producing. So why am I not giving 5 points to this product? In fact, one of the spades were too narrow so I had to use a screwdriver to enlarge it, risking to scratch it or, worse, break it. At this price I think this is not acceptable. The FutureShop's service was fast, friendly and informative. (Thank you Google Translater!).

The soundstage has opened up with tighter control of higher frequencies without demeaning the base the sound at the moment is fantastic and am still burning in speaker cables and jumper leads.
