X-Tube™ TechnologyAt low frequencies both X-Tube™ and conventional stranded/solid core speaker cables convey signals in a linear way. However, at high frequencies, X-TubeTM retains a near-linear signal transfer, whereas the conventional cables fail to conduct uniformly across the entire conductor area. In standard speaker cables at high frequencies current flow is highest at the periphery with rapidly deteriorating current density towards the centre of the conductor. The effect of this is to reduce the actual cross sectional area of the cable at 15kHz to less than 75% of that at low frequencies. This results in higher distortion and compromises the performance of the cable. X-TubeTM with polycore technology exhibits much lower self-inductance and is therefore less affected by this problem. The polycore technology reduces loop inductance to levels only achievable using more costly and difficult to terminate cables. The result is more high frequency detail, less distortion and greater performance. |

Termination
This cable is professionally terminated by Futureshop's expert engineers using QED's superb 24 Carat gold plated AIRLOC termination plugs.
AIRLOC is QED's specialised loudspeaker termination method and offers the very best termination with QED speaker cables. This is a solder-free, airtight fusion between the cable and plug offering optimum signal transfer, excellent signal quality and perfect long-term performance.
QED’s AIRLOC FORTE metal banana and spade plugs deliver a superior performance over many plugs offered by rival manufacturers for the following reasons. Firstly, the plug is crimped around the conductors under high pressure using a special tool supplied by QED. No soldering is used and as a result the conductors are in contact with the plug 360 degrees which maximises the surface area contact. Furthermore, the banana plug itself is in contact with the binding post again at 360 degrees. The net effect of this is it maximises the signal transfer from the plug into your equipment and hence a superior performance. When bare wire is used not all the conductors are in contact with the binding post and as a result some loss occurs.
Unfortunately the metal barrels for the AIRLOC spades were discontinued in 2012 however we still use genuine QED’s AIRLOC spade plugs with genuine QED heat shrinks over the spade plugs. This ensures every QED speaker cable comes fully terminated with the best of QED's engineering.

The Nordost VIDAR cable burn-in machine integrates three key functions into one operation:

Receiving an terminated item like this make it so easy to install and once I’d checked for cable direction I plugged in and put a CD on to hear lovely clear sound, this was over a week ago so now the cable sound has fleshed out a bit!
The cable is for my AV amp and it is great in that set up! TV and Blu-ray sound great with plenty of range .Can’t go wrong with this at the price really! It’s a lot of cable for the money

Have used this cable before, but a recent house move means I now need longer lengths for my 2-ch hifi. Bought unterminated, to which I added my own banana plugs.
In my system (Roksan CD and amp connected by Chord cables + Monitor Audio floor standers in medium sized room) sonically excellent across the full frequency range, listening to a range of music from Brahms to pan-British and Irish folk to classic and modern rock to Scandinavian heavy metal.
Bass is full but not boomy, treble sweet but not shrill, mid-range very clear. Separation is well handled too. Previous cable was Chord Carnival bi-wire, which was excellent, but I am hearing subtle intricacies with the QED that I did not get before.
When played through speaker cable that strangles the sound, Simple Minds can sound like jumbled noise. This cable allows me to hear all the component parts within the music, not in a clinical way, it just sounds really good at all volumes.
Future Shop service excellent as always. My first choice for cables for over 10 years.

What a difference a cable makes...I've been using Silver Reference for a few years now and find it to be an excellent cable all round. OK, I may not have tried many cables, but I happened on this one during an installation three years ago and loved the sound. I went home and ordered it for myself. Never been disappointed.
The key here though is the make up of the cables by Future Shop. Well made, and the cables terminated well with the fort banana plugs. Couldn't wish for a better job. I would have no hesitation in recommending them for any custom cabling.

Amazing difference. It was time for some new cables as after measuring the current setup unbelievable signal loss was occuring, trawling around online and multiple forums suggested FutureShop so I decided to give it a go, a number of users recommended QED Silver. Ordered a pair of same lengths for Bi wiring, super quick delivery and have to say a little taken back by the gauge of the wire!
Rigged up and straight away played some test tracks of varying styles of music, instantly noticed a huge increase of lower frequencies that weren't noticeable before. If you're needing a new cable set or just unsure if you do.... Buy it! You'll be pleasantly surprised!

I have had good experience with QED silver cable so it was an easy decision to use Future Shop which provided excellent customer service on the phone and provided very good advice. The cable was purchased to replace some bi-wire Monster Cable that had lost its shine - literally. Well it was over 25 years old. The QED cable looked like a quality product and performs as such, I am now enjoying re-acquainting myself with my record collection with these cables connecting Acoustic Energy AE1 to Denon POA4400A power amps - both of which I bought new in 1989. The cable has given the system a whole new lease of life and I feel that there is more detail presented to my ears! I was surprise to find that the QED cable is a smaller gauge than the Monster Cable - but I guess that is due to over 20 years of progress!! Top marks for futureshop for customer service. I telephoned on Friday afternoon at 15.45, spoke to Gary regarding the QED Silver Anniversary XT Speaker Bi-Wire Cable, He got the order processed and delivered to me by Saturday afternoon, excellent. After performing my burn in regime with the Tellurium Q disc for a couple of hours I was pleasantly surprised at the openness and clarity of this cable, the midrange was very good and the treble very sweet, OK the bass was a little down, but I feel sure that this will improve with more hours through the cable, in fact the entire range has been improving steadily. I have tried many mid priced cables over the past 10 years, from Linn, Ixos, Chord, AudioQuest, etc. and believe this cable represents the the best in value versus performance that I have tried and will get better still.

Significantly different than my Gale XT315 speaker cable that I had used for 10 years. The white colour blends in well with most skirting boards. The cable is easy to bare and add ends to. It is somewhat stiff and needs persuading gently to sit in place. The sound is markedly brighter than my Gale XT315, which is what I wanted and is to be expected from a silver cable. Purely by chance it has given my system the extra clarity it needed as it was somewhat muddy and veiled ever since I moved house.

After almost a year with this cable, I'd like to review the first comment I put as I have been able to compare this cable with cables from other brands. I found this cable extremly good at giving good music details however it also gives a very lean sound compared to competitors on the same price range. Therefore it doesn't suit all types of equipment. I have now switch to Chord which gives me full satisfaction. However, for the price Futurshop is selling this Qed Cable it still remain a good bargain.

Bought this cable to go with my marrantz 6003 cd and amp and wharfedale 10.1's, Previously was using some cambridge audio bi-wire cable and have to say the improvement i have heard with this new cable is great and worth the extra cash, sonically much better and with a lot more punch. Also delivery was excellent ordered 2pm thursday with the standard postage option arrived 9-30 am friday, and it was well packaged. Very pleased
