Gaia II Review
24 Apr 2022

First of all, the service from Futureshop was excellent, and the delivery was rapid.

OK, so this is my experience with Gaia II, in my system, in my listening room, placed under my floor standing speakers. Your experience may differ.

Prior to trying the Gaia II, I was reasonably happy with the sound from my system and speakers, although I did recognise that there was definitely room for improvement in the bass quality; it needed to be 'tightened up' as it was a little bit flabby.

I installed the Gaia II and their carpet spikes/discs under my ATC SCM40 Active speakers in accordance with all the manufacturer's guidance. This was a relatively simple operation, and it is fair to say that they are a very well made and attractive product. They replaced the conventional carpet-piercing metal spikes over a solid concrete floor. I have now lived with them for about 40 days and so have given them what I believe to be a fair hearing.

I cannot honestly say that they have made much if any, noticeable improvement or difference in sound quality over the spikes they replaced. It would seem that I am firmly in the minority here, judging from the very positive experiences of others who have left reviews, but in my case, they have left me somewhat underwhelmed. I am only left to conclude that any improvement they may bring is very much room and/or speaker-dependent.

So, for me: no 'night and day' transformation; no 'lifting of veils'; no lowering of any noise floor'; no ' jaw-dropping' moment; no more HiFi cliches. I shall be returning them.

Transformational Product!!

I bought these isolation feet after reading many online recommendations. My new Kudos floor standers sounded great, but there were issues with bass reverberation at low frequencies through the spikes to the wooden floor below, so I decided to try the Gaia II's to see if this eliminated this problem.

Not only did they eliminate the bass issue, but they did exactly what others had observed and gave me better-defined bass and a better-defined midrange/treble and soundstage.

These products do exactly what they say on the tin! Highly Recommended :-)

Definite improvement over spikes

I've had my B&W speakers from new, and over the years have used the OE speaker spikes, then a pair of Russ Andrews Torlyte Speaker Platforms, with oak cones etc. I've been happy with the sound, but from reading reviews, I felt that perhaps I could get just a little more... I was really not expecting such a clear improvement from a set of replacement feet.

Notes are now so much cleaner and easier to distinguish. These Gaia III feet and carpet spikes have to be one of the best improvements I've ever made to my system.

I bought the Gaia3s, and the carpet spikes for my Graham LS6 stands. These speakers are thin wall construction, and in my listening space, they were a bit bass boomy. The Gaias completely solved the problem. They're expensive for what they are (though they're nicely finished and well-engineered), but they exceeded my expectations.

Completely transformed my speakers

I can't recommend the Gaia isolation feet enough. Putting them under my PMC twenty5 24i speakers instead of the supplied spikes transformed the bass and opened up the soundstage.

As a result, the sound is now more detailed and transparent. Highly recommended.

Strap in...

I invited an audiophile friend of mine round to make some suggestions on how to improve the sound of my system, he suggested upgrading the mains cables (see AudioQuest Monsoon review) and, amongst other things, also mentioned speaker isolation.

I did a little research on the subject, purchased some granite slabs from my local garden centre, cut them (on a wet saw) oversize to suit the footprint on my speakers, bonded some black MDF with some captive M6 nuts to the underside.

Naturally pessimistic, I had to do an A/B test to see if there would be any discernible difference. I had one last listen to a couple of Hi-Res tracks from my speaker demo collection (Giorgio by Moroder, Oxygene Pt 2 and Grandma's Blues), then frantically swapped the spikes from my speakers to the granite slabs, replaced the spikes from my speakers with Gaia IIIs', sat them on the slabs and played the same tracks again. Honestly, the smile on my face from the result said it all. I could not believe the noticeable improvement in definition and clarity...Highly recommended!!

Everything seems better

It seems odd that installing isolation feet on a sub-bass unit results in a general improvement to everything, more fine detail across the spectrum, faster bass and an improved sound stage, but it has happened.

My sub-bass is next to the sofa and previously one could "feel" the deep bass coming up through the floor, but not any longer. Clearly, these isolation feet work. Oh, and the bass is better.

Gaia i Review

Bought these to fit to my Kef Reference 5, mainly as I'm fitting a new wood floor and didn't want the spikes. When delivered it was found that special bolts were required to fit these speakers, due to Future shops excellent service the correct bolts arrived the next day.

After fitting the Gaia 1 I found the mid range sounded more open, and the bass was cleaner. The Gaia i are not cheap, but with the sound improvements, and cosmetically looking stunning on these speakers I have no hesitation in recommending these isolators.

Gaia lll a pleasant surprise.

For many years I have been a firm believer in rigid isolation for my D7 speakers.....not any more.

Over the last 5 years I have introduced component isolation to my system using Isonoe units under my CD and Amps. The result was very noticeable and to my ears adding more detail and a more expansive soundstage. As a result I decided to try the same method of thinking to my speakers.

The Gaia units were simple enough to fit and are a nicely engineered product. Once fitted your speakers now react like 'jelly on a plate'. The base being firmly by the suction of the Gaia's feet and the top of the speaker allowed to move freely in any direction. The first thing I noticed was the improvements were subtle but that's no bad thing. These units helped squeeze a little bit more out of my D7's.

Music became a little more 'airy' with the sound stage a little more open and detailed but still keeping control of the bass. If you're looking for system tweaks to 'rinse' everything out of your equipment these could be for you.

As always thanks to Futureshop for their advice, support and excellent delivery.
