The iPower X uses Active Noise Cancellation II to cancel all incoming EMI or RFI noise. This is the same tech as in active noise-cancelling headphones! Imagine how well these block out cabin noise on a plane compared to regular headphones? This is what the iPower X does to your power supply.
Improved capacitance
As usual with iFi, every new design means not only improving how it looks on the outside but more importantly, how it functions on the inside. The input capacitance is now 50% larger and the output capacitance is 150% larger when compared to the original iPower. The unit itself is used as an upgraded PSU for an iFi Signature 1 DAC.
Do I hear a difference? I think so. There is certainly more bass. However, the service is exemplary.

This is my second iPower X. This one is for the BT router; the other is on an iFi Zen Stream. Music is now cleaner, smoother, more detailed, and has a greater dynamic range.
I'm trying to tweak the system so ZMF Verite Closed is not too bright for my tinnitus. It's gradually working well. With a high-resolution headphone system- a small change can make a big difference.

I’ve come to realise that the quality of the power supplying my audio set-up is paramount and makes a significant improvement.
I used this to power my BT Smart Hub, and there is a repeatable 2dB improvement in signal strength received by my BT discs (also ifi powered). I believe that’s nearly a doubling of signal strength.
Oh, and the team at Futureshop were fab, as always!

I bought this to replace the SMPS that came with my switch. I wasn’t expecting to hear much change, and I was pleasantly surprised. Game changer, no, but it’s a no-brainer for the cost.
The main thing that I noticed was the improved soundstage. Everything became better focused.
A smaller but definite improvement was the highs losing a level in f harshness on tracks that could be harsh. Not a massive improvement but without question an improvement.
Whether your system will see similar gains is impossible to say, but for £99, it definitely worth trying.

I already have one of these connected to Chromecast audio into my Naim Muso gen1 - a significant improvement in the sound and allows amazon music HD to be played at its full potential.
I thought I would try on my two Amazon 4k Firesticks, and there was a significant improvement in both the picture and the sound - so I bought another two!
Maybe it seems a lot for a power supply, but definitely worth the money.

Lots cheaper than a Linear Power Supply, but it does an equally good job. The improvement was subtle but worthwhile when added to my Ifi streamer.

I have an iFi CAN headphone amp that had the cheaper iFi iPower source. I donated that to the connected Topping DAC and used the upgraded iPower X for the headphone amp.
There's a definite improvement in using the DAC with iPower. The headphone amp seems slightly better as well. The improvements are good as it's offered an improvement on fairly budget equipment.
I'm considering getting a 12V version for the router, but I am still deciding as the benefit may not be so obvious. I am fairly pleased it's cleared up unwanted noise on the headphones.

I already own four iPower X PSU's, which were significant upgrades. Now it was time my headphone kit received a refresh. I knew sOtM sMS-200 streamer could do better but was not so sure about the Chord 2Qute. I recall reading somewhere that Chord does not recommend changing the supplied wall wort.
Anyway, the sMS-200 took a few steps up in detail. Not so much the 2Qute, but still a worthwhile gain. It's like replacing each component with better equipment, minus the cost.

I said I would need more iPower X PSU's in my previous review. Sure enough, I order two more (5 & 12v).
The 5v was intended for an iFi's SPDIF iPurifier, making a slight audible difference. The 12v model delivered the revelation. I planned to use it with a SOTM streamer, but, on unboxing, I decided to try it on my Amazon Fire TV box first. The result was a significant step-up in colour, contrast and depth of images. I don't think the resolution has changed, but it certainly looks like it.
I use a pair of Amazon Studio speakers as an alternative to a soundbar. As expected, the speech and music of live, recorded and streamed video also has a real impact. But unexpectedly, music played through the TV box, and Studio's sounded more hi-fi. I previously only played music through this setup for background listening. It now passes for serious listening.
It looks like I will need another ifi PSU for my TV stick.

I was getting a little bored with my SMSL Sanskrit Pro. I purchased it a long time ago and have since upgraded a few times. I liked the Sanskrit for its neutral sound and recently dug it out of the loft and hooked it up to a Linn Majik DS just to hear what the best source I own can do for a cheap DAC. It sounded good. But, over time, I was sure there was a lot of missing detail. The obvious candidate for change was the puny SMSL 9v PSU. I have an iFi USB iPurifier, so I already know how good their products are.
The iPowerX at £99 seemed a no-brainer. Out of the box, the iPower X upgraded the SMSL further than I imagined possible. Poorly recorded music remained poor. Well, recorded music gave detail I had never heard before, even with a Chord 2Qute. I didn’t see that coming! It looks like the Chord might benefit from the same upgrade.
Some might consider a £99 upgrade to a £120 DAC makes no sense. I would have agreed until yesterday. The downside is that I am looking at a sizable bill for changing out several external PSUs. Nobody said hi-fi was a cheap hobby.

I bought this to replace the standard PSU supplied with my Musical Fidelity MX-DAC, following a DAC group test in Hi-Fi Choice mag on the grounds of value for money/performance. There are a lot of recommendations for suitable PSU upgrades online. So, to save any more research and confusion, I sent a letter/email to the letters page of Hi-Fi Choice mag to ask for their opinion/advice. Their reply, printed in the February 2022 issue of the mag, gave me their view, which was extremely helpful. So, I contacted Futureshop( several times ), and their view was that I should start with the cheapest and, if I was not satisfied after 14 days, I could return it for a full refund and, if available, they could supply me with one of the more expensive ones to try for another 14 days. The first one that arrived was faulty( the UK mains adaptor had a loose connection arcing across between the body and the adaptor, making it unusable ). Following a phone call on the afternoon of the day of receipt to the shop, another unit arrived the following day. This has proved to be very good indeed, for the money.
There has been a significant increase in the output volume, and the sound is much clearer on all types of music vocals and speech, together with a more dynamic, weighty overall sound. Now, for my modest hybrid system, the bass is extended and goes lower, with enough 'punch' behind it. In fact, I was going to replace the small class D power amp( 22 watts x 2 ) that powers the secondary preamp output to the conservatory as there was not enough volume for the quieter types of music. No need to now, as the DAC output is approx 30-40% higher in volume than before, meaning that the power amp has a new lease of life. Futureshop advice and service continue to be top-notch, in my experience of remote purchases.

I’ve always had good results in paying attention to the power coming into my equipment. i.e. uprating the power supply in my preamp and hooking it up to a mains conditioner. Buying quality mains cables is very well spent for all of the equipment.
I’m a real “old school” analogue man, vinyl being king. But there’s no escaping the benefits of steaming music of the “web”. But I want to be spending my big spends elsewhere in the system. But I also want some kind of music quality with the performance from my Bluetooth receiver. So I landed on the ifi Bluetooth receiver/DAC. I paid under £150 for the box with an aerial.
To be honest, the best value for money I’ve spent on hifi in a long time. But of course, when spending this “small”, there must be room for improvement. This product's “On the plug” power supply is definitely “Pound Shop” quality. BUT!! In fairness, the instructions that came with the Bluetooth receiver did STRONGLY recommend upgrading the Power Supply. So giving the box a month plus of use to burn in and also to become acquainted with it.
I went to Future shop for the ifi X Power supply. I ordered online on a Wednesday evening, and on that Saturday morning, my postman was knocking on the door. I’m very impressed with Futureshop's performance. I will be shopping there again.
Anyway, back to the Power-supply. If you have an ifi product without one. Please do yourself a massive favour, get in touch with Futureshop and get it bought. A good DC power supply is one of the most critical components in any hifi system. I bought 3 of these to replace standard ifi SMPS's. The standard iFi SMP'S is far better than most other OEM SMPs, but the iPowerX is another step up. The difference between one of these and a £400 linear power supply that I have is almost imperceptible.

I bought this power supply to upgrade from the supplied wall-wart power supply for the £20 Netgear network switch, which sits between my QNAP NAS drive and my router, following advice seen in more than one online hifi publication. Doing so has resulted in a noticeable improvement in all aspects of the sound, with music streaming from the NAS to my hifi system.
The stereo image is much improved, and everything is better defined with individual instruments and voices standing out more easily. The sound is now much smoother, with aggressiveness and sibilance reduced considerably. The sound is a lot more engaging and musical to listen to. The £99 spent on this power supply is a lot less than the cost of buying an audiophile-grade network switch, and I would suggest anyone using an "ordinary" switch in this way gives it a try.

The sound is now much smoother, with aggressiveness and sibilance reduced considerably. The sound is a lot more engaging and musical to listen to. The £99 spent on this power supply is a lot less than the cost of buying an audiophile-grade network switch, and I would suggest anyone using an "ordinary" switch in this way gives it a try.

This is my second. I tried it on an older 12V Chord DAC over the original ipower and was amazed at the difference. It has more body and the sound is lowered in tone. The noise floor has also decreased, with a much blacker background, providing greater clarity and dynamics. It is like a new purchase!

Reduces brightness slightly without affecting overall soundstaging and clarity. Darker background, although very good to begin with. Male voices and complex tracks are more refined as a consequence. Tried a popular quality LPS that killed the sound - this is far better in my system.

I bought this as an upgrade from the previous version of the ipower switch mode power supply. I was a bit skeptical if it would be worth it since the previous version performed so well and technically there is little difference between them, but I am constantly looking to optimize my audio system and so I thought “why not”. I did the right thing!
Like with the previous version, I have the unit plugged in to an Isotek EVO3 Sirius and it powers my dac/headphone amplifier via an Ifi idefender+ connected to my desktop PC.
The effect was most noticeable in the lower frequencies. The bass now extends further down and slams harder and tighter than ever before. Also, the music is much more transparent with every detail coming though with crystal clarity. I used to EQ my headphones to compensate for what I thought was a bit of a dull sound profile, but that is no longer necessary. I do not know if it is the lower noise floor of the ipower x or the higher power delivery (3.0A vs 2.5A), but this unit made my Black Label come alive.
