Gold Note PH-10 Phono Stage

The PH-10 is Gold Note's entry-level phono stage, but it is still a unique and versatile piece of kit. It is extremely user-friendly, with nine different loads options (10Ω, 22Ω, 47Ω, 100Ω, 220Ω, 470Ω, 1000Ω, 22kΩ, 47kΩ) and 3 different EQ curves to allow you to get the very best sound from all of your vinyl records. Like every Gold Note product, the PH-10 comprises of components exclusively sourced and assembled in Italy.

What Gold Note say

The Extraordinary Phono Stage

The PH-10 is an ultra-versatile phono preamplifier that offers unique features, including EQ CURVES, LOAD, and GAIN adjustments: a fully analogue design, engineered exclusively with the best components to recreate the musical event in the most natural way possible.

To control the PH-10, Gold Note developed the user-friendly Single Knob Control (SKC). Combined with the color display this rotary joggle allows quick adjustments of any function in real-time during music playback.

The PH-10 lets you select the most appropriate EQ curve for every record: the RIAA, the DECCA LONDON, or the AMERICAN COLUMBIA, and all selection appears clearly on the display.

Each curve can be “enhanced” with our proprietary technology inspired by the Neumann Cutting Lathe for superior dynamic and musicality.

The Perfect Cartridge Matching

9 different LOAD options [10Ω, 22Ω, 47Ω, 100Ω, 220Ω, 470Ω, 1000Ω, 22kΩ, 47kΩ] and 4 different selectable GAIN options [0dB, ± 3dB, +6dB] will let you adjust the preamplifier accurately to achieve the best sound experience with any kind of MM and MC cartridges.

Connect Two Separate Tonearms

With its two separate RCA inputs, the PH-10 can be connected to two different tonearms, each with independently adjustable settings stored into memory, even when the unit is switched off, guaranteeing flexibility and impressive user-friendliness.

PH-10 at its Best

To maximize the performance of the PH-10 Gold Note have also developed the PSU-10, a dedicated external super inductive power supply that allows the phono stage to achieve its fullest potential, reaching an even higher degree of musical realism, better dynamics, and greater three-dimensionality sound.

What can I say? I have been researching phono stages for a while as I am using my (flagship) integrated amps’ built-in one, but I have had a hankering for something ‘more’ for a while.

I kept coming back to this Gold Note PH-10 in review after review and thought, if this is as good as people say it is, plus as versatile as the features and specifications suggest, it's a steal. Anyway, I took the plunge, along with the accompanying power supply, input, and output via very good cables, and wow, just wow.

I have been listening in a kind of higher mid-fi space for some time, but this has transformed my vinyl experience. It just sounds so alive and meaty. Everything is there, but not in a hyperdetailed way, but very, very musical. I have heard some genuine high-end gear and systems, and this hardware can definitely hang with them!

If you are on the fence about this, then I cannot recommend a listen enough. The bottom end is very ‘rocking’ in a nice way and totally clear. My wife has repeatedly commented about ‘how I have never heard this album like this before’, and I have to agree with her. I am not even using a particularly exotic cartridge, but rather an Ortofon 2M Black LVB 250, not a cheapo by any means and certainly a fantastic cartridge.

To be honest, I can't wait to find out what this will deliver with a ‘better’ cartridge!
