Chord Odyssey X Speaker Cable
Chord Odyssey X uses the same materials as Rumour X. Odyssey’s heavier gauge conductors bring so much more detail and dynamics to a system, along with a degree of control and definition that can transform the performance of both floor and stand mounted loudspeakers. Odyssey was launched in 1998 and set a new standard of performance. It’s neutrality, its compatibility and consistency of performance from system to system made it very rapidly our most popular speaker cable.
Hi-Fi News magazine liked Chord Odyssey so much because of its performance and price that it won the best speaker cable award for five years in a row.
Over the years, changes have been cosmetic only. The current version has a white PVC outer jacket with a diameter of 8mm, still discrete in speaker cable terms and still good enough to let even the biggest of systems sing like they should.
Previous versions of Odyssey speaker cables used PTFE insulation (often referred to as Teflon™) and until the arrival of Taylon®, this was our “go to” material. Although expensive, PTFE offered the best performance.
Material technology is constantly developing and improving and alternatives to PTFE are now available. While the high cost of Taylon® prevents us from using this in all of our ranges, another insulator – XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene) came to our attention. One particular version of this material proved to be clearly better than PTFE, so Odyssey X was born.
The conductors used in Odyssey X are also found in Chord Epic and Epic XL speaker cables.
ChordOhmic Silver-Plated Banana & Spade Plugs
Chords ChordOhmic silver-plated loudspeaker plugs are designed to bring both the electrical and sonic benefits of silver to speaker cables.
Silver-plating not only makes sense from an electrical point of view, it can give an audibly superior result during listening tests, when compared with gold plated connectors. Plugs will also benefit from a major clean, using a good contact cleaner or enhancer.

Termination
This cable is custom-made according to customers specific requirements as selected by the various drop-down options above. Future Shop’s highly experienced engineers professionally terminate Chord Cable’s using their superb silver-plated ChordOhmic plugs.
ChordOhmic is Chord’s new silver-plated termination option designed to bring both the electrical and sonic benefits of silver to your speaker cable. Future Shop terminates Chord speaker cables using Chord’s special HEXGUN. An airtight crimp is applied to the plug creating a secure and protected termination. This is a solder-free, airtight fusion between the cable and plug offering optimum signal transfer, excellent signal quality and perfect long-term performance. Furthermore, the banana plug itself is in contact with the binding post again at 360 degrees. The net effect of this is it maximises the signal transfer from the plug into your equipment and hence a superior performance. When a bare wire is used not all the conductors are in contact with the binding post and as a result, some loss occurs.
Future Shop also offer gold-plated banana and spade plugs which are soldered as an alternative to the ChordOhmic plugs.
How to Order
From the dropdown menus' above, simply select the length of cable, the type of plugs required at the ‘Amplifier end’ and ‘Speaker end’ and click on the 'Add to Basket' button to add the item to your basket. Orders received before 4.30pm Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays) are usually dispatched the same day by FIRST CLASS post (unless premium postal or timed courier services are selected), subject to stock availability. Over 98% of our orders are usually delivered the next working day including Saturdays.
Standard delivery is usually within 2-3 working days, although 98% of all orders are delivered the next working day including Saturdays . In extreme cases, such as delivery to the Highlands and Islands, this may take 3 days.
All items are fully insured and come with an invoice from Futureshop.co.uk. We use the Royal Mail for delivery of small packages and DPD or Interlink Express for items that weigh over 2KG. Please take note of the following details regarding our cable burn-in service:
- Cable Compatibility: We regret to inform you that we cannot burn-in cables with stripped bare ends or BFA plugs. In order for cables to undergo the burn-in process, they should be terminated or have connectors.
- Timing: Cables will be burnt in for the selected period after processing your order. For custom-length cables, the burn-in process will occur after they have been terminated by the manufacturer or our engineers unless specified otherwise in the product description.
- Availability: Future Shop provides our cable burn-in service free of charge, but its availability is at our discretion. While we strive to fulfil all burn-in requests for the specified time periods, please understand that during exceptionally busy periods, we may be unable to meet the demand due to limited connections on the Nordost Vidar cable conditioning machines.
The Nordost VIDAR cable burn-in machine integrates three key functions into one operation:
- Charge Neutralisation: It eliminates charges that accumulate around the cables and their insulation, ensuring a more balanced electrical environment.
- Deep Conditioning: The machine provides a wide band and deep conditioning process that affects the conductor core, resulting in changes to the signal transmission through the metal. This deep conditioning enhances the cable's performance.
- Ultrasonic Surface Conditioning: The VIDAR machine utilizes ultrasonic waves to condition the surface of the conductors, optimizing their contact and overall conductivity.
The VIDAR employs a proprietary combination of composite and complex signals to condition the cables. These signals comprise ultra-low and ultra-high frequencies, extending beyond the range of video frequencies. The signal moves back and forth along the cable, penetrating deep into the core with ultra-low frequencies and traversing the surface with ultra-high frequencies. Good evening. First of all, I would like to thank Futureshop for the careful and very fast delivery. I have the impression that this cable is more open than the previous one, which was of a larger diameter and was all copper.
The highs are a little more present and the midrange a little reduced. It's subtle after only a few hours of operation, and even though I no longer have my old cable to compare. My ears are no longer young!
The English manufacturer of my new amplifier recommended this brand of cable. It is good value for money.

I got this to bi-amp my speakers with an older Odyssey 2 speaker cable. Both sound similar but X very slightly more refined.
Compared to my older QED Silver Anniversary copper cable, it was much more dynamic and open, with a clearer, wider soundstage and more space around each instrument and singer.
It improved my old Linn LK140/Kolector based system.

I recently added a pair of height speakers to my AV system, requiring an additional pair of cables. Given that my AV system already comprised Chord Company cables, it seemed sensible to maintain this loom with additional cables from the same company.
It's likely that a cable lower down the range would have been perfectly suitable for this purpose, but I decided on the Odyssey as I already have the same cable connecting my surround speakers & wanted to match them as closely as possible.
As always, excellent quality cable from Chord, & excellent advice & service from Futureshop.

I listen to music (a Qobuz Hi-Fi Sublime subscription) on my pc, through an iFi Micro iDac and an iFi Micro iUSBPower, and Audio Engine A5+ speakers. Power cable and USB-cables are from AudioQuest and Forza Audioworks respectively. The interlinks and the speaker cables were from QED. The latter were Silver Anniversary XT strand speaker cables, but these Chord cables and the ChordOhmic Silver-Plated Banana termination really have upped the ante.

Bought as an upgrade to my existing Cable Talk 3.1 speaker cable.
I was fairly sceptical about any improvement in sound but thought it worth taking the chance as a low cost upgrade.
On playing some familiar albums I realised I’d made the right choice. The sound is simply better, more clean, more open and for realistic.
System used is a Linn Akurate DS and Pre Amp. Power Amp is a Linn Majik, speakers are PMC Fact 3. Highly recommended product.

I was forced into an upgrade of my speaker cable due to having a new floor laid with a thinner sub floor insulation. My old cable (Van den Hul Teatrack) used to route under the 7mm floor void easily but following laying the new floor the void space was only 5mm. I auditioned Chord Odyssey 2 many years ago and was mightily impressed with the detail and soundstage, so now was a great opportunity to upgrade to Odyssey X...the only problem being that the jacket diameter is 8mm. I did remember that Chord supplied a twin wire wound installation version of Odyssey 2 years back (without the jacket), so after a quick call to Futureshop who gave me great advice I decided to buy 4 x 6.5m lengths of bare cable (I own a bi-wired hi-fi) and strip off the outer jacket, which was not easy, but with time and care was doable without damaging the individual cable installation.
Now I've had the cable installed (under the floor) for a few weeks and its had a chance to burn in, its sounding sweeter by the day. Initially the high frequency treble was too harsh (particularly with CD) but its softening slowly and is now much rounder. Overall though the cable is streets ahead of the Van den Hul it replaced. Beautiful wide soundstage with amazing preservation of instrument decay allowing you to hear the room that the instruments were recorded in. Totally immersive sound, with extended subtle sub-low and gorgeous detailed treble, but is capable of delivering robust precise bass if asked to.
The greater cable cross section Odyssey X offers has noticeably reduced the movement of my bass cones but retains all the dynamic range I enjoyed previously plus more...my hi-fi seems to be working much more efficiently. Just be warned that Odyssey X will make a good recording sound epic, but a bad one truly disappointing, i think its fair to say it's a fussy cable but will faithfully reproduce whatever is put through it. Just for reference I own 2 x Arcam P38 power amps (bi-wired, one feeding each speaker) an Arcam A38 (configured as a pre-amp), Arcam CD37, Chord Chamelion interconnects and 2 x B&W CM9 speakers.

Barely installed and even without the "Burn-in" (offered as a free option) which will start to run naturally as and when future listening, the difference in quality of the Chord Odyssey X is striking!
This cable replaces my Chord Odyssey 2 which are already, again and always, of very high quality. However, I was surprised and very pleased to see that, from the first listen, these cables constitute an indisputable "upgrading" of performance.
They are associated with a Cyrus 8 Xpd integrated amplifier and power Kef LS 50. A perfect marriage!
The cables, according to my options, were prepared with great care and the delivery time, fast, very well respected. I would without hesitation add 5 stars to the different "Futureshop" services I contacted, with whom the communication was excellent, clear and very well followed!

Personally I find speaker cables a major influence on sound and these are excellent cables. I had cheaper Audioquest cables before and these are a marked improvement in most areas. A nice balanced tonal range, wide sound staging and separation of instrument and voices. The law of diminishing returns will come in at some point but I’d say these are with the entry price.
Nicely terminated by Future Shop too. I’m using Audiolab equipment and found them a good fit and sound.
