Anni is Chord Electronic's first-ever desktop integrated amplifier. Capable of driving both headphones and compact loudspeakers, Anni benefits from the company’s proprietary ULTIMA circuit topology and is perfectly positioned to exploit the full potential of today’s high-performance headphones, desktop monitors and high-resolution audio sources.
The new Anni desktop integrated amplifier forms part of the Qutest range and seamlessly complements the resolving abilities of the multi-award-winning Qutest standalone DAC and Huei phono stage. As a system, the Qutest components provide an unrivalled desktop audio solution, offering class-leading digital and analogue technologies for the modern music lover. The company’s compact QSS (Qutest Stand System) modular equipment rack provides the perfect support, too.
Anni offers the recently announced dual-feed-forward error-correction circuit topology whether using headphones or compact loudspeakers. Anni’s advanced technology allows it to drive any headphone load, error-monitored and compensated amplification at all times.
Benefitting from both 3.5 mm headphone outputs and ¼-inch (6.35 mm) outputs, so two can listen simultaneously, plus 4 mm banana-type loudspeaker outputs, Anni delivers 10 watts of quality ULTIMA amplification, controlled by a fascia-mounted volume control that also doubles as an input selector switch for Anni’s two line-level inputs. A two-stage gain control for loudspeakers provides additional flexibility with a wide range of desktop monitors.

Amplifier Gain
Anni benefits from a two-stage (high and low) gain function on the loudspeaker outputs to suit a wide range of partnering speakers. Press the gain button to alternate between low (blue) and high (red) gain modes, allowing 3 seconds to switch between modes.
When using either of the headphone outputs, Anni is automatically switched to low gain mode. If using Anni with Qutest, ensure Qutest's output voltage is set no higher than 2V.

1. We use Royal Mail 1st Class Services as a Standard Postage Option
Orders received before 4.30pm Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays) are usually dispatched the same day by FIRST CLASS post (unless premium postal or timed courier services are selected), subject to stock availability. Standard delivery is usually within 2-3 working days, although 98% of all orders are delivered the next working day including Saturdays . In extreme cases, such as delivery to the Highlands and Islands, this may take 3 days.
All items are fully insured and come with an invoice from Futureshop.co.uk. We use the Royal Mail for delivery of small packages and DPD or Interlink Express for items that weigh over 2KG. Items over 2KG are fully insured and will usually be delivered within 48 hours of placing your order Monday to Friday subject to stock availability. For International orders, we use FedEx Services where customers have selected this option.

Some places take longer to deliver to but we still guarantee delivery within three working days by 5.30 PM.
For the Next Day Special Delivery service, orders must be received by futureshop.co.uk by 4.30pm weekdays. Orders after the 4.30pm deadline cannot be guaranteed for same day dispatch.
Please note, Royal Mail Special Delivery for next working day may not be possible where non-standard cable lengths are ordered. If this is the case, the item will be shipped via The Royal Mail Special Delivery service as soon as the cable is custom made.

Good but needs careful matching

The sound is classic Chord; clear and detailed but with a very refined, likeable (the poetic might say "buttery") character. It isn't laid back, but neither is it forward - its skips and steps, bangs and rushes whenever required without ever feeling forced, aggressive or in your face. Really well balanced but not to everyone's taste: if you like the Class A warmth thing, or valves, or alternatively that super clinical AB detailed sound, this probably isn't for you.
What it is, more than anything, is very musical, whether I'm playing pop, rock, jazz, blues, electronic or classical. My preferred taste is orchestral and nothing I threw at Anni phased her in the slightest, no matter how complicated, fussy or involving. The sound staging is clear and open and surprisingly broad for such a little girl. She really sings with the Qutest DAC and, combined, they enrich those old or badly mastered recordings, low-quality files or poor stream connections, and she makes pretty much everything enjoyable.
In my small office space, the 3D sound image is engaging and vivid, rich and balanced without ever being too overpowering to distract from my work. However, the lack of muscle is really noticeable in bigger spaces (10w really isn't much) and you need to be very careful if you are planning to run speakers rather than headphones. I have tried Anni with a few different bookshelf speakers, old and new, and she can't power any of them. They all sound like a mobile phone inside a tin box, laboured, muddled and thin with no bass, no top and a scratchy kind of awful in between. So far the only exception has been the equally tiny Neat Iota's which really sing with her. In fact, I'd say the Anni, Qutest and Iota's will challenge anything comparably priced if your room is small enough.
This leads into the size point nicely; Anni, the Iota's and Qutest will all fit in a small bag, being the size of a lunch box and 2 pencil cases. This makes it a fantastically portable true hifi experience for hotel rooms. This depends on the hotel, I'm sure, but for my business and types of the hotel room, it's an unexpected benefit of buying Anni. It's true that Anni isn't cheap, and there is a lot of competition at the price, but this is missing the point a little - there is not much out there that can sound this good in a tight space. Just be careful about what you match her with.
