Delivering performance at a good price. Chord Company Clearway (now ClearwayX) speaker cable has won WHAT HIFI? Best Speaker Cable award 2015, 2016 and 2017. It uses a clever combination of materials to produce a speaker cable with a performance level that usually costs a lot more!
The ClearwayX uses 14 AWG multi-strand oxygen-free copper conductors – big enough to bring control and definition to both bookshelf and floor standing loudspeakers. The insulation has been recently upgraded from FEP to XLPE which has comparable performance to PTFE. Choice of insulation has a profound effect on a speaker cable and contributes to its neutrality. The wrong choice of insulation can produce unwanted tonal colourations.
The conductors are arranged in a twisted pair configuration before a soft PVC internal jacket is applied, this helps to minimise mechanical noise and also spaces the twin contra-wound foil shields in relation to the conductors.

This cable is custom-made according to customers specific requirements as selected by the various drop-down options above. Future Shop’s highly experienced engineers professionally terminate Chord Cable’s using their superb silver-plated ChordOhmic plugs.
ChordOhmic is Chord’s new silver-plated termination option designed to bring both the electrical and sonic benefits of silver to your speaker cable. Future Shop terminates Chord speaker cables using Chord’s special HEXGUN. An airtight crimp is applied to the plug creating a secure and protected termination. This is a solder-free, airtight fusion between the cable and plug offering optimum signal transfer, excellent signal quality and perfect long-term performance. Furthermore, the banana plug itself is in contact with the binding post again at 360 degrees. The net effect of this is it maximises the signal transfer from the plug into your equipment and hence a superior performance. When a bare wire is used not all the conductors are in contact with the binding post and as a result, some loss occurs.
In addition to the ChordOhmic plugs, Chord has introduced a 4mm crimp-fit banana plug with premium gold plating, designed for use with the Chord Company Hex-Gun crimp tool. This crimp version ensures reliable and durable connections, providing cost-effective, high-quality performance while reducing resistance and maintaining signal integrity and sound clarity.

- Cable Compatibility: We regret to inform you that we cannot burn-in cables with stripped bare ends or BFA plugs. In order for cables to undergo the burn-in process, they should be terminated or have connectors.
- Timing: Cables will be burnt in for the selected period after processing your order. For custom-length cables, the burn-in process will occur after they have been terminated by the manufacturer or our engineers unless specified otherwise in the product description.
- Availability: Future Shop provides our cable burn-in service free of charge, but its availability is at our discretion. While we strive to fulfil all burn-in requests for the specified time periods, please understand that during exceptionally busy periods, we may be unable to meet the demand due to limited connections on the Nordost Vidar cable conditioning machines.
The Nordost VIDAR cable burn-in machine integrates three key functions into one operation:
- Charge Neutralisation: It eliminates charges that accumulate around the cables and their insulation, ensuring a more balanced electrical environment.
- Deep Conditioning: The machine provides a wide band and deep conditioning process that affects the conductor core, resulting in changes to the signal transmission through the metal. This deep conditioning enhances the cable's performance.
- Ultrasonic Surface Conditioning: The VIDAR machine utilizes ultrasonic waves to condition the surface of the conductors, optimizing their contact and overall conductivity.
The VIDAR employs a proprietary combination of composite and complex signals to condition the cables. These signals comprise ultra-low and ultra-high frequencies, extending beyond the range of video frequencies. The signal moves back and forth along the cable, penetrating deep into the core with ultra-low frequencies and traversing the surface with ultra-high frequencies. Every type of music sounds more assured and solid. They make my music collection sound better. I find the midrange most improved, but lows and highs sound better, too. They are every bit as musical, involving, and moving as I hoped they would be.

I replaced my previous cable Audioquest Q X2 speaker cable due to my feline friend taking a fancy to them.
So I decided to up to this cable, which is absolutely brilliant. The bass is so much cleaner and has more clarity in sound. It costs 3x the price of the Audioquest X2, but wow, it's worth it.
The burn-in time was two weeks, and now my system sounds epic.
Chord make very good cables so don't hesitate getting some.

Many thanks to the guy who advised me to upgrade my Chord Company ClearwayX speaker cables. I purchased cables with stripped ends, so there was no burn-in, but I could tell right away the difference in instrument clarity and spacing.

I looked for Chord cables because I have their RCA Clearway, which connects my CD player to the receiver. The Chord Clearway X - speakers cables came as a real surprise. The sound is full and rich. A pleasure to listen to. Very clear and detailed in all departments - high, mid, and low.

I do not know why I had never considered it. I found differences between speaker stands, obviously the speakers themselves (you cannot compare Roksan TR5s with Fyne Audio 301, for example).
It turns out that some cables match some amps better than others. This cable complements my Cambridge Audio CXA61, which was not getting on with Tellurium Black 2 cables despite the Telluriums are great with both a Roksan Kandy L3 Amp and K2 amp.
I think the 'full and rich' sound of the Telluriums combined with the 'full' sound of the CXA was too much. On the other hand, these Clearway X cables give a really nice clean sound with the CXA61. Recommended for use with Cambridge Audio CXA61 and CXA81 amps.
For Roksan amps, I prefer the Telluriums.

I used to be in the camp that disbelieved that better cabling made a difference.
Not any more. Bought both speaker cables and RCA connectors. The biggest difference for me has been that the soundstage is much improved, with better treble as well.

I initially bought this cable to replace some (well known) silver speaker cable, which had left my primary system (Cambridge Audio 851 gear plus Monitor Audio Silver speakers) sounding too bright and fatiguing. What a difference!
The highs are still there but much smoother. Mids and lows are so much better too, but the most significant difference is imaging has MASSIVELY improved. I have that “band in the room” effect now, and music just sounds so much more together and listenable than it did before.

When I first tried this cable it did not sound good with an unpleasant harsh treble, but after about 72 hours of usage is now balanced and sounds very good. Patience is most definitely a virtue with this cable.
Because of my centre speaker my amplifier is slightly to one side so I purchased a 1.5m plus 3m cable, deciding that would be a better choice than having one of the cables looping around and possibly picking up interference.
