In 1982 Sony gave us "Perfect sound forever," along with the attitude that, "it's just digital, so all CD players sound the same." That was disproved and qualitative differences between players became accepted truth. Next came separate transport and DAC combos, which brought with it the attitude that "all S/PDIF digital audio cables sound the same..." until that too became disproved. Now the frontier has moved once again. Is digital audio really just ones and zeros? We don't believe so, and once you've had a chance to listen to Forest USB, you won't think so either...

Solid Long-Grain Copper Conductors (LGC) :
Solid conductors eliminate strand-interaction distortion. Forest's solid Long-Grain Copper allows a smoother and clearer sound than cables using regular OFHC (Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity) copper. OFHC is a general metal industry specification regarding “loss” without any concern for distortion. LGC has fewer oxides within the conducting material, less impurities, less grain boundaries, and definitively better performance.
Solid High-Density Polyethylene Insulation :
Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation and circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then later released as distortion. Solid High-Density Polyethylene Insulation ensures critical signal-pair geometry while minimizing insulation-induced phase distortion.
Gold-Plated Terminations :
Precision gold-plated plugs are carefully attached with the very best solder. Through choice of flux and metallurgy, AQ solder has been optimized to make a low-distortion connection. The difference you hear between solders is a result of connection quality. AQ solder does not have a high silver content because the more silver there is in solder, the more difficult it is to make a good connection.

Some places take longer to deliver to but we still guarantee delivery within three working days by 5.30 PM.
For the Next Day Special Delivery service, orders must be received by futureshop.co.uk by 4.30pm weekdays. Orders after the 4.30pm deadline cannot be guaranteed for same day dispatch.
Please note, Royal Mail Special Delivery for next working day may not be possible where non-standard cable lengths are ordered. If this is the case, the item will be shipped via The Royal Mail Special Delivery service as soon as the cable is custom made.

This was purchased to connect my computer to my streamer (that has a micro USB socket to provide a conditioned input that is then passed through to the connected DAC). This cable seemed an appropriate brand - price to get away from using a flimsy spare cable that I had lying around.

My initial reactions to this cable were not good, hard, bright, glaring - I immediately put my cheap stock cable back in and got ready to send it back. Chatting to Futureshop they suggested I give it some time and burn it in as I would an analogue cable, there is a 60 day return policy after all. I was dubious, but gave it a go. Now in my experience there are two stages to burn in, the first is mechanical and involves leaving the cable in the system for hours and hours (they suggest 100) and NOT listening. This is important as stage two of burn in involves the brain/ear interface. So I connected the cable to my Mojo and put the headphones in the cupboard and let the system play to itself for about two days solid. I took it out for a listen maybe once and decided things were sounding better, so left it for another day.
Next stage involves ‘getting used’ to the sound of the new component, so I began listening and immediately I could hear the glare had gone, but the cable still sounded bright. I tested it on known harsh tracks against the original stock cable and no it wasn’t harder, it was now more resolving and actually saw through the hardness - where as the old cable could now be heard to soften the entire extreme treble.
After another few days of just listening as usual I dropped the old cable back in (crucial once your brain/ear interface is ‘used’ to the new sound) and definitely there was more attack with the Audioquest and certainly more involvement, whilst the old cable remained ‘smoother’ but at the expense of detail. It night and day like the first listen, but worth £25 - would I pay more for a digital cable? It’s doubtful, but with 60 days to play I’m tempted already!

It is hard to write about a cable. When it does its job we do not even notice it. Only when it fails can we detect the difference.
I use the AudioQuest Pearl USB cable regularly to connect my Chord Mojo to my laptop. It works perfectly all the time. The (lots of) plugging/unplugging feels very stable.
