Following on from the success of the Storm Series NRG power cables (Thunder, Tornado, Hurricane & Dragon), AudioQuest have utilised trickle down techniques to create a new series of affordable, entry level NRG power cables. Featuring the excellent Noise-Dissipation technology employed in the Storm Series, this new range of NRG-Y and NRG-Z cables outperform their old NRG-X and NRG-1/1.5/2 counterparts by a landslide. The NRG-Y3 replaces the NRG-X3 however it outperforms previous higher models.
Ideal for video displays, powered speakers, and all other electronics, NRG-Y3 (3-pole) cables use direction-controlled Long-Grain Copper (LGC) conductors in a Semi-Solid Concentric arrangement in which the individual copper strands are packed more tightly and never change position within the bundle. This construction significantly reduces strand interaction distortion. The greater purity and more uniform grain structure of Long-Grain Copper further reduces distortion. In addition, NRG-Y3's direction-controlled silver-plated shield conductors efficiently drain RF noise to ground.

Zero Characteristic Impedance for Uncompressed Current Transfer
A non-technical analogy for this might be that if you drop a coin in a tube with shampoo in it, no matter how wide (low resistance) that tube, the shampoo (the Characteristic Impedance) is going to get in the way (compromise current transients). Eliminating Characteristic Impedance (Zero means No in this application) is like having only air in the tube, as close to a vacuum as possible. Whether the amp is running at less than a watt or is fully maxed out, the unrestricted transients are visceral — something the whole body understands, no words required.
Semi-Solid Concentric Packed Long-Grain Copper (LGC) Conductors
NRG-Y2 and NRG-Y3 AC cables use Long-Grain-Copper (LGC) in a 7-strand Semi-Solid Concentric arrangement in which the strands never change position within the bundle. This technique significantly reduces strand-interaction distortion. The higher purity and fewer grains within LGC copper further reduce distortion.
Direction-Controlled Conductors & Silver-Plated Shield Drains
All drawn metal has a non-symmetrical, and therefore directional, grain structure. AudioQuest controls the resulting RF impedance variation so that noise drains away from where it will cause distortion. The Silver-Plated shield drains efficiently remove RF noise from the line and neutral shields via the wall plug’s “ground” pin – which is why even the 2-Pole “2” models have an unexpected ground pin.

I have only used OEM power cables, and I thought it was time to try an upgrade.
I have a Roksan K3 amp and K3 CD player with B&W 603 speakers in my system.
I've spent a fair amount on interconnects and speaker cables. But when it comes to power leads, I'd left well alone as I wasn't convinced they would make much difference. I also wondered if my system was at the right level to benefit from the power cables upgrade. I bought 2 Audioquest Y3 cables for the amp and CD player.
I must say the cables have a quality feel and are very substantial - clearly in a different class to the stock cables.
I am very pleased and surprised with the results - in my ears; there is more of everything. The music seems to have more space to "breathe", making the overall sound clearer with an improvement in highs, mids and lows. There is also an improved sound stage. I also hear some of the atmosphere and subtle background detail on well-recorded music more clearly.
So, for me, this has been a worthwhile upgrade, and I can recommend these cables for those with this level of the system who want to try a power cable upgrade at this price level.

I'm no mug- I can see a con from miles away! A natural born sceptic me. But curiosity got the better of this cat....and wowswers!
Let me explain: I have a very good system -about 25K worth of kit: DK Design hybrid amp with upgraded everything inside and rolled tubes; Esoteric X-5 SACD and Hyperion 938 speakers with upgraded everything inside (!) + Chord Epic and Signature cables + Velodyne sub-woofer...so what could I add?
Well I thought, after listening to 25K Ktema speakers followed by Wilson DAW's at 40K, what can I do to my system? OK - for £100 I'll have a punt and what with the 60-day return, there's nothing to lose.
So what's the difference?
Bass richer and tighter - cleaner deeper notes.
Mid - much more up front with greater transparency (Listened to Eric Clapton Unplugged- glorious).
Treble clean and clear.
More slam, more attack on notes (get those cellos on Eleanor Rigby, I can hear the string vibrating on the bow).
A blacker audio palate and wider (lower) soundstage- Peter Gabriel sound fx are wrapping around the room- and if your hi-fi can cope with Peter Gabriel and keep it all clean and clear, it must be good!
So ...why pay silly money on speakers when you can get as near as damn for so much less.
If you've got a good hi-fi and a good ear then it's well worth the £100 squid. However, if your hi-fi is about impressing your friends with its visuals...maybe not so much.

Bought a 1.5m length of the NRG-Y3 to replace the standard kettle lead on my Innuos Zenith mk3. It made everything clearer which has let me playback louder without inducing fatigue. Its nice and thick for £120 and I would rate it above the Rega, TCI and Merlin power leads I have owned in the past.

Tremendous quality of cable. Cable itself bigger than I expected (larger than my Russ Andrews Yello cables), but still straightforward to position behind component. The only downside I experienced was for some reason it wouldn't fit in my extension block and had to faff around moving my cables.
I own several Audioquest RCA interconnects and a couple of mains cables, this easily continues their excellent tradition. For the money you can't go wrong. Highly recommended.

Bang for buck, this is a great cable, exceeded my expectations, clear improvement in dynamics, depth, imaging and tonal accuracy. My amp runs cooler and gives more punch and weight. All this for £99, I am an Audioquest convert, and to screened mains cables.

I originally purchased the NRG-X3 custom. The IEC ends were a very loose fit in my Marantz ND8006 Streamer and PM8006 Amp so I decided to upgrade to the NRG-Y3 which are a sealed connector rather than the screw fitted connector supplied with the NRG-X3 custom.
I'm glad I did not least because the IEC plug now fits the amp and streamer more securely but also the sound quality is much better as well, better bass control and better transients. Glad I upgraded, the NRG-Y3 is worth the extra money without a doubt.

Quite amazing cable, especially considering the price. looks great, fit and finish is perfect. sound wise it does what was claimed, it notably reduced hf-noise, forwardness, hardness and digital hash, especially with digital sources.
If your highs sound like insects making music, here is a fix. make sure to add one to your network player, server, NAS etc if that's your source. It introduced a wonderful harmonic evenness throughout which lets you focus on the music and not certain frequency bands. great detail and soundstage. bass was interesting. it sounded deep but muddy at first, as if the drum kit is stuffed with wool. This settled with burn it, which is quite significant with this cable, It took several weeks to gain a punchy impactful bass. clear recommendation. It's so good, should have gone with the Z3's.

I bought two of these cables, one to go into my Linn Lingo power supply for the LP12 and one to go into the Melco N1A/2 for both sources the effect on sound quality was noticeable, with more clarify to the sound allowing you to hear deeper into the recordings, I find this particularly staggering with the Melco which is "only pulling bits off a hard drive". I actually had to put my old cables back in for a short period, just to prove to myself I wasn't hearing things. Crazy how 1m of decent power cord can make such a different.
