AudioQuest Coffee Digital Audio Cable

AudioQuest Digital Coax cables are designed to minimize distortion across an extremely wide bandwidth. For many applications, the speed of digital communication is important. Most visibly, “speed” is about transferring large files as quickly as possible, or carrying enough data for HD video. For Digital Coax audio “speed” is critical not because of how-much how-fast, but because time relationships within a digital stream are critical to the reconstruction of the analog waveform that brings information, music and joy to our ears. Time-based damage (jitter) to this information within the data package makes the sound small and flat instead of 3D, harsh and foggy instead of smooth and clear.

Features :

  • Solid 10% Silver Conductors
  • Hard-Cell Foam Insulation
  • 100% Shield Coverage (Foil + Silver-Plated Braid)
  • 72v Dielectric-Bias System (DBS, US Pat #s 7,126,055 & 7,872,195 B1)
  • Carbon-Based 6-Layer Noise-Dissipation System (NDS)

Solid 10% Silver Conductors :

Solid conductors eliminate strand-interaction distortion and reduce jitter. Solid silver-plated conductors are excellent for very high-frequency applications. These signals, being such a high frequency, travel almost exclusively on the surface of the conductor. As the surface is made of high-purity silver, the performance is very close to that of a solid silver cable, but priced much closer to solid copper cable. This is an incredibly cost effective way of manufacturing very high-quality digital coax cables.

Hard-Cell Foam Insulation :

Hard-Cell Foam insulation is used exclusively in most of AudioQuest’s video and digital audio cables. Similar to Foamed-PE, it is nitrogen injected to create air pockets. ‘Hard’ foam is used because the stiffness of the material allows the conductors in the cable to maintain the same relationship with each other along the full length of the cable, thus ensuring that the characteristic impedance of the cable is consistent.

100% Shield Coverage (Foil + Silver-Plated Braid) :

Shielding always plays an important role in any cable design, but the shield on coax interconnect plays an especially important role because it functions not only as a shield but a return path as well. Because of this, AudioQuest pays special attention to the shield’s metal quality and the fabrication techniques as both will affect the sound and the picture.

72v Dielectric-Bias System (DBS, US Pat #s 7,126,055 & 7,872,195 B1) :

All insulation slows down the signal on the conductor inside. When insulation is unbiased, it slows down parts of the signal differently, a big problem for very time-sensitive multi-octave audio. AudioQuest’s DBS creates a strong, stable electrostatic field which saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This minimizes both energy storage in the insulation and the multiple nonlinear time-delays that occur. Sound appears from a surprisingly black background with unexpected detail and dynamic contrast. The DBS battery packs will last for years. A test button and LED allow for the occasional battery check.

Carbon-Based 6-Layer Noise-Dissipation System (NDS) :

100% shield coverage is easy. Preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment’s ground reference requires AQ’s Noise-Dissipation System. Metal and Carbon-Loaded synthetics prevent most RFI from reaching the equipment’s ground plane.

About AudioQuest

AudioQuest has been the largest cable supplier to the high-end specialist market for many years. AudioQuest is sold in several hundred outlets in the US and in over sixty countries. Bill Lowe (Founder) is especially pleased that this success has been possible despite his insistence that the foundation of the company, and the foundation of AudioQuest marketing, must be the performance of the product. In the audio world, many professionals have learned that it is not always convenient to listen to the products they sell … they might learn something they don’t want to know! Bill has always understood the challenge of basing the existence of AudioQuest on the performance of the product. However, to Bill, this is the only reasonable way to do business and the only acceptable way to combine his passion for music (and all things high performance), with his need to make a living.

Free Premium Cable Burn-In Service: Experience the Power of Nordost VIDAR 2 Machine

We are thrilled to unveil our upgraded cable burn-in service, now featuring the cutting-edge VIDAR 2 burn-in machine. At Future Shop, we strive to provide the best possible experience for our customers, and this enhanced service is designed to unlock the true potential of your high-end cables. Read on to discover the exceptional benefits and advancements offered by the VIDAR 2 machine.

Please note: We are unable to burn-in cables with stripped bare ends or BFA plugs. Cable burn-in occurs after your order has been processed for the selected time period. For custom-length cables, burn-in takes place after termination by the manufacturer or our skilled engineers.

The Nordost VIDAR cable burn-in machine seamlessly combines three vital functions into a single operation:

  • Neutralising charges around cables and insulation: The VIDAR 2 effectively dissipates any built-up charges, creating an optimal environment for signal transmission.
  • Deep conditioning into the conductor core: With its wide band and profound conditioning capabilities, the machine induces significant changes in signal passage through the metal, resulting in enhanced performance.
  • Ultrasonic surface conditioning of conductors: The VIDAR 2 employs ultrasonic technology to refine the conductor surface, further refining the signal quality.

In addition to all the advantages of its predecessor, the VIDAR 2 introduces remarkable improvements, including:

  • Complex burn-in signal with wider bandwidth and richer content
  • Enhanced directionality for cables
  • FOUR burn-in zones - including a new digital zone for USB, Ethernet, and Coaxial (BNC) cables.

Using a proprietary blend of composite and complex signals, the VIDAR 2 ensures comprehensive cable conditioning. The signal consists of ultra-low and ultra-high frequencies, surpassing video frequency ranges. The signal effectively penetrates the core at ultra-low frequencies by oscillating throughout the cable while swiftly traversing the surface at ultra-high frequencies. This transmission methodology counters harmonics and heterodynes between the two complex waveforms, improving signal performance throughout all cable layers.

Furthermore, the circuitry design boasts a unique feature that drives electrons above the conductor into the dielectric or insulation area. This process neutralizes any electrical charges that may impact the signal integrity. With the Nordost VIDAR, we go beyond merely sending ping-pong signals along the cable; we also ensure a balanced signal flow from the centre core to the outer shield in interconnect cables.

What does all this mean for you?

Conditioning your cables with the Nordost VIDAR yields remarkable benefits, including enhanced sound staging, heightened detail reproduction, and a more captivating and musical presentation.

We offer our cable burn-in service as a complimentary offering at the discretion of Future Shop. While we strive to accommodate all burn-in requests for the specified time periods, please understand that during exceptionally busy periods, we may be unable to fulfill all demands due to the limited connections available on the Nordost VIDAR cable conditioning machines.

Fantastic!!! But why?

I have upgraded my cables using AudioQuest DBS cables. First was the Coffee USB. This is how it all began. Then Water between DAC and phonostage and my amplifier. Everything a great positive shift in sound quality. I was also using AudioQuest Carbon digital cable between CD and DAC. Excellent cable but I thought, let's try DBS digital. A lot of money for an experiment, but if it fails I can always send them back.

I have been listening to both cables, Carbon and Coffee for over 2 hours. Switching back and forth. I do not understand how it works but the Coffee just sound better. I can understand better detail because they are better shielded and 5% more silver, but where is the extension in the bass, wider and deeper soundstage coming from? This is just digital. Is there something that DBS does to signal? I have also found that cables with DBS don't seem to need burn-in. They are great straight out of the box.

I am listening to Aja by Steely Dan. I know it very well. I am hearing things that I have not heard before. One of my favourite tracks to test a system is Kieth don't go by Nils Lofgren on his Acoustic Live album. Everything just sounds clearer and fuller. More life-like. Another is First we take Manhattan, by Jennifer Warnes on Famous Blue Raincoat. This track really lets you hear the human voice. Again, a better sound.

I do not understand how this cable can make such a difference. It just does. Now I just need to sell my Carbon cable. I have put a lot of my CDs away and been using Qobuz. I will dig out some of my favourite CDs again.

Outstanding service from FutureShop as usual. Highly recommended if you have a system that can show the improvement
