For many applications, the speed of digital communication is important. Most visibly, "speed" is about transferring large files as quickly as possible, or carrying enough data for an HD video.

AudioQuest Cinnamon USB Type A to Type Micro B Data Cable

In 1982 Sony gave us "Perfect sound forever," along with the attitude that, "it's just digital, so all CD players sound the same." That was disproved and qualitative differences between players became accepted truth. Next came separate transport and DAC combos, which brought with it the attitude that "all S/PDIF digital audio cables sound the same..." until that too became disproved. Now the frontier has moved once again. Is digital audio really just ones and zeros? We don't believe so, and once you've had a chance to listen to Cinnamon USB, you won't think so either...

Features :

  • Solid 1.25% Silver Conductors
  • Solid High-Density Polyethylene Insulation
  • Gold-Plated Terminations
  • Universal Serial Bus Device Class Definition for Audio Devices

Solid 1.25% Silver Conductors :

Solid conductors eliminate strand-interaction distortion and reduce jitter. Solid silver-plated conductors are excellent for very high-frequency applications, like USB audio. These signals, being such a high frequency, travel almost exclusively on the surface of the conductor. As the surface is made of high-purity silver, the performance is very close to that of a solid silver cable, but priced much closer to solid copper cable. This is an incredibly cost effective way of manufacturing very high-quality USB cables.

Solid High-Density Polyethylene Insulation :

Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation and circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then later released as distortion. Solid High-Density Polyethylene Insulation ensures critical signal-pair geometry while minimizing insulation-induced phase distortion.

Gold-Plated Terminations :

Precision gold-plated plugs are carefully attached with the very best solder. Through choice of flux and metallurgy, AQ solder has been optimized to make a low-distortion connection. The difference you hear between solders is a result of connection quality. AQ solder does not have a high silver content because the more silver there is in solder, the more difficult it is to make a good connection.

Universal Serial Bus Device Class Definition for Audio Devices :

USB (Universal Serial BUS) was established by a stalwart group of companies such as Intel, Hewlett-Packard, and Microsoft (just to name a few) in order to give the personal computing world a truly universal standard and means to connect devices such as hard drives, printers, cameras, and, more importantly to us, audio components. Included in the original description are protocols for the pristine transfer of audio over USB. Great care and sensitivity went into this. Consequently, a computer connected to a USB-enabled digital-to-analog converter can outperform the best compact disc players available today. AudioQuest is committed to contributing products that honor USB's ability to deliver state-of-the-art performance on this new and wonderful frontier.

Please note: the braided cable shown in this video is no longer available. This cable now comes with a PVC jacket as shown in the main image.

About AudioQuest

AudioQuest has been the largest cable supplier to the high-end specialist market for many years. AudioQuest is sold in several hundred outlets in the US and in over sixty countries. Bill Lowe (Founder) is especially pleased that this success has been possible despite his insistence that the foundation of the company, and the foundation of AudioQuest marketing, must be the performance of the product. In the audio world, many professionals have learned that it is not always convenient to listen to the products they sell … they might learn something they don’t want to know! Bill has always understood the challenge of basing the existence of AudioQuest on the performance of the product. However, to Bill, this is the only reasonable way to do business and the only acceptable way to combine his passion for music (and all things high performance), with his need to make a living.

Exceptional Sound
13 Dec 2021

I use this cable to listen to music through my Chord Mojo. I enjoyed the Mojo with a reasonable price set of headphones. I then upgraded the cables to my headphones. After listening to music with a sampling frequency of up to 192KHz, I was suitably impressed, but during the lockdown, I decided to upgrade my headphones during the lockdown.

All was good, but when I received the AudioQuest Cinnamon cable, I realised I had been missing. Aside from clarity, some additional depth and intimacy, what really threw me was the scale of the sound. I almost forgot I was wearing and listening to music through headphones, not speakers. Highly recommended.

USB to Micro B Cinnamon cable.

Don’t believe people who say data cables are all the same and they make no difference in terms of sound quality.
Nonsense. Zero’s and ones are corruptible but the Cinnamon does a very good job of significantly reducing that negative effect.

The obvious improvements are clarity, deeper soundstage, smooth and sweet top end open midrange and solid bass. This observation is over the standard data cable that comes in the box.

Great cable at this price point. Highly recommended.

Minus 1star as I ordered 1.5m but received 0.75m cable. However, the delivery are really fast as I am from Malaysia. I just finishing A/B test between Wireworld Chroma vs Audioquest Cinnamon. To my listening, this AQ definitely upgrade from my existing WW cable.

Nice looking and well built

Well built and nice looking cable, I use it with my Chord Mojo, but honestly I cannot hear big differences compared to the 10cm stock usb cable.

It helps reducing RF interference, as it is longer (75 cm), and maybe the sound is slightly more open and defined, but nothing major to my ears.

Great service from Future Shop!

No Brainer

Is it worth upgrading your usb cable to this one? Simple answer. Yes! I am using an Astell and Kern AK70 Mk II Digital Music Player as my DAC. It has a dual DAC setup. Two of the highly regarded Cirrus Logic CS4398 chips. When I changed over to the 3 metre Audioquest Cinnamon cable the difference was immediate.

My system comprises of an Arcam fmj A19 amp driving Kef LS50 speakers via Moving)Air Abbey Road Monitor cables. The AK70 is connected via Audioquest Victoria DBS 3.5 jack cable to the amps aux input. My headphones are the Koss ESP95 Electrostatics connected via Audioquest Golden Gate 3.5 Jack lead. I have endeavoured to get good quality interconnects throughout. The Digital cable was my last upgrade. Theory said it was the least important. Theory was wrong.

This cable made an enormous difference. Dual DAC’s are known for having a greater Soundstage, better stereo separation and an overall clearer sound. Reviewers warn that the implementation of dual DAC system is crucial and a linear power supply is recommended. Astell and Kern have implementation well covered and; as it is powered by a battery, power is also sorted. With this cable the overall sound is much improved. Bass is clear and punchy and mid-range crisper and well balanced. Soundstage though is the biggest improvement. Listening through the Koss cans to 24bit recordings, Fleetwood Mac for instance? The clearer separation of the different instruments means you can hear, say, the bassline and lead as clear and distinct parts of the music. Tricky to describe just what I mean music is more spacious has; like it says on the tin, a bigger Soundstage.

I have been revisiting my music collection since the upgrade and this digital cable really has transformed the quality of my music. If you have the temerity to call your music system “Hifi” are using a DAC then this upgrade is a no brainer.

I have just received your AudioQuest Cinnamon USB Type A to Micro Cable 0.75m and it is now connected to my Chord Mojo DAC.
It really did make a significant improvement in the sound comparing with the original cable.
The sound is more transparent and detailed (perhaps slightly forward in the upper middle maybe due to the Mojo character).
It's a very good value for the money in my opinion.

I was always sceptical with cables. They provide the less value for money in your audio chain.
And my opinion hasn't changed. I have to admit though, a good cable does make a difference. You just have to have good enough equipment to hear that difference, and thick enough wallet to afford them. I bought cinnamon cables for my Chord Mojo DAC (£400). And yes, I do think it has worth the extra £49. I wouldn't recommend it with £100 DACs, as the difference in sound might be marginal. But with DACs on Mojo's level and above I see the investment justified.
Compared to a cheap USB cable the first and most obvious improvement is the clarity of the sound. It sounds just so much more clear. Like a slight fog had been removed and now you see the instruments in perfect clarity. I also found the sound slightly more balanced. Mids have a stronger presence, and treble and bass sound more tamed and more refined at the same time. Definitely more micro details are coming through. If having the right DAC and source and headphones give you the 80-90% of overall sound quality cables give you the missing 10-20%, but with less value for money.
Also, if you are completely new to high-end audio your ears might not gonna be trained enough to hear the difference. My girlfriend hardly hears enough difference between Fidelio X2s and V-moda M100s. So how could you expect her to hear a difference between USB cables?
But if you are in this hobby for a while, and your wallet is thick enough to afford a cable for £49, I can strongly recommend Cinnamon cables as they really add that missing 10-20% to the overall sound, especially in clarity and balance department.
