Atlas Zeno headphone cables are designed to offer a significant upgrade over the cables bundled with even very expensive headphones. Brands typically using 1:2 (cable plugs into both earpieces) connectors include Audeze, HiFiMan, Oppo, Sennheiser, Ultrasone, HiFiMan & Mr Speakers (Some brands may use more than one type of connection depending on model).
‘High-end’ headphones are growing in popularity at an extraordinary rate, but many users quickly come to realise that the original cables supplied with many models tend to be of average quality, not very durable and are supplied in typically quite short lengths.
Atlas Zeno cables are a high performance OCC copper replacement cable for dynamic headphones (not electrostatics) from most audiophile brands. For Atlas to achieve their design and performance goals for Zeno, they employed their proven cold-weld solder-free construction methods, the objective being to produce a signal path with the minimum of the breaks in continuity which degrade fidelity. Staying true to their design principles meant designing a new family of low-mass, wide bandwidth connectors. These Metik connectors are available in 2.5, 3.5mm & 6.3mm jack plugs plus a 4 pin XLR version in their ‘dark chrome’ finish.

Metik Jack Plug
The Metik is a robust, air tight metal to metal solder-free contact jack plug. Available in 2.5, 3.5 & 6mm versions.
In a cold-weld connection, the metal of the connector plug and the wire are squeezed together under a calibrated pressure to form a robust, consistent, air-tight metal to metal contact with no damage to the cable dielectric. The result is a smooth, uninterrupted signal path which behaves as one continuous entity, with minimal degradation of the signal compared to soldered connections.
Atlas also developed their own low mass/high bandwidth connectors to take this approach to its logical conclusion.
Ohno Continuous Casting Copper (OCC Copper)
The Ohno continuous casting method re-heats the extrusion as the molten copper is forced out of the mould and very slowly and gradually draws the grain or crystal down the conductor''s length, creating a ‘single crystal structure.’ Actually, because no copper is 100% pure, there will always be a few boundaries produced by impurities. The frequency of boundaries created are quite insignificant. A typical crystal in a copper conductor drawn to 0.3 mm diam. using the OCC process is 125.00 metres long!
The benefits are obvious, with almost no crystal boundaries, the audio signal is no longer impeded down the copper wire and more information and detail is delivered faithfully to the receiving equipment.

FEP Dielectric
PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) is cheap to produce and, as such, is the most commonly used insulation in AV cables. However, PVC is the worst quality insulation a Hi-Fi or AV signal can encounter as its high loss causes a significant reduction in signal velocity. PVC is better suited to power cables and should be avoided in Hi-Fi and AV signal cables.
Other dielectrics in common use are Polyethylene, Polypropylene and Polytetrafluoride Epoxy (better known as PTFE (Teflon™) or Teflon,) and the new and unique Atlas (PTFE).
FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene) has a big advantage over PTFE in that it can be applied to sophisticated conductors at lower temperatures, preserving the integrity of the base material.
The table below shows the properties of a selection of dielectrics. Though not used as a dielectric in Atlas' cables, PVC is included for comparison purposes.

I purchased the cable for use with a Chord Hugo2/2Go and Sennheiser HD820 headphones. I'm happy with the cable supplied with the Sennheisers, but it's a little long for portable/desktop use. I opted for the 1.5m cable that is advertised as having a more pliable (black) outer braid; which proved to be well suited to the intended application. Construction quality is as high as one would expect at this price point, and I'm sure that the cable will give years of reliable service.
The push-pull plugs that connect to the headphones are very well terminated and fit the headphones nicely with just the right amount of insertion force. Cable microphonics are relatively low and easily controlled by careful cable routing. Sound-wise the cables don't disappoint, and I would have no hesitation in recommending them to others.

Bought to replace the supplied cable on Focal Clears, for use on the balanced output on an Astell & Kern KANN Cube.
Have only used for 1 week or so, but the differences are pretty obvious from first use - greater weight, clarity and detail. Seem to be 1 step closer to the mixing desk. Definitely a worthwhile purchase.
1 star deducted, as the balanced jack doesn't always stay fully pushed in.

This review is in three parts, firstly the speed of service from Future Shop was outstanding.
Secondly, the build quality of the cable, well it's everything you expect from a cable at this price point.
Now for the third part of my review, this gets a little more tricky as I'm not a professional HiFi reviewer.

- Russ Andrews power supply for the Dac
- Oppo SE Headphone amp
- Oppo PM 1 Headphones
- AudioQuest Niagara mains conditioner.

In my opinion even after more than three solid weeks of burn in, I was left with a more resolving sound. But this seems to be at the expense of bottom end grunt, not a trade I'm prepared to make.

But if you are happy to make that compromise, then the Atlas cable may well be for you.

Bought the cable for two specific reasons. Firstly, original cable was not long enough and secondly, I wanted to update performance.
Cable was run in for 72 hours and worth it. Much clearer sound and instruments are so much easier to listen to and follow the tune.

An excellent and very well made cable for my Focal Utopia headphones.. I recently purchased this cable from futureshop, whose service was, as ever, excellent. When I purchased the Utopias just before Christmas I did so as part of the bundle promoted by Focal, which comprised these quite wonderful, albeit very expensive, headphones, plus the Questyle QP2R DAP, itself an excellent product, but I was rather disappointed by the very short and somewhat flimsy cable supplied. I thus decided to purchase the Atlas Zeno cable, which is proving to be a very good match with these headphones and my Chord Hugo2 headphone amp/DAC.

It is beautifully constructed and my first impression is that the performance of the already excellent Oppos is even better using this cable with my Chord Mojo DAC and iPhone 7. Certainly, the sound reproduction seems to be both tauter and more detailed. I am hoping that after a full burn in it will be even better. Very well done Atlas and all at futureshop who helped me so professionally.

This custom made cable is a worthwhile upgrade from the cable that normally comes supplied with headphones and is of far superior construction. I use it with Audeze LCD2 and Graham Slee Solo Ultra Linear amp and there is a significant improvement in overall sound quality.
It is expensive but still cheaper than other makers' products eg Kimber. It is supplied in your choice of length and terminating plugs and was delivered 48 hours from ordering. Excellent service and highly recommended.

Compared with the standard HIFIMAN headphone cable ? Well, there is no comparison! The ATLAS Headphone cable is a work of art. Construction quality is really superb and even though I only received it recently the transformation in sound quality is sensational. For the money you will not find a better cable. I have tried Furutech headphone cable upgrades and was very disappointed with the outcome. The physical beauty of the ATLAS cable needs to be mentioned; the headphone cable simply oozes class right out of the packet. Finding this cable on the Internet has been just great!
