Atlas Hyper 3.5 Speaker Cable - Custom Length

Developed by Atlas in consultation with a number of leading audio manufacturers. A sophisticated cable engineered to offer a higher level of transparency than products typically supplied in ‘single-brand’ systems.

Users regularly ask Atlas of ‘single-brand’ systems from companies such as Naim and Linn if Atlas Cables could improve their system without sacrificing its essential character. It’s relatively easy to deliver an improvement in a specific area but more difficult to create a cable that improves overall detail, accuracy and openness without losing these systems' signature speed and character.

All Atlas cables are designed to impose as little of any inherent character as possible, achieved through careful selection of materials and construction methods, but they feel this latest generation Hyper 3.5 cable is exceptionally transparent, allowing the equipment characteristics to be conveyed intact. The cable employs conductors comprising 72 0.25mm² high-purity OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) strands encapsulated within a carefully selected high-efficiency PTFE (Teflon™) dielectric coating. The resultant conductor is embedded within an anti-vibration filler and finished in the Hyper gloss black sleeve.

Features :

  • Choice of Atlas Gold Plated Z Plugs or Achromatic Z-Plugs
  • Very high purity (99.9999%) OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) copper-only conductors
  • 3.5 sq.mm² conductors
  • PTFE Dielectric
  • Multi-Core Construction
  • Professionally Terminated by Future Shop Engineers

Atlas Gold Plated Z Plugs

The Atlas Z plug has stood the test of time. Using beryllium copper for the contact area, It's designed to make a 100% contact within the 4mm female socket. The body is made from copper, and it's available for home assembly with grub screws to make contact with the conductors. When factory-fitted or fitted by an Atlas-appointed custom cable centre, they're cold welded under pressure in order to amalgamate the conductors to the plug in an air-tight seal. The outer sleeve is finished in black coloured ABS or in a turned brass with a fine oven-applied powder coat finish. The Atlas Z plug is justifiably considered to be one of the best 4mm plugs available.

  • Low resistance
  • High conductivity
  • 80% copper with beryllium 4mm section, giving 100% contact
  • Corrosion resistant
  • Accepts conductors up to 5mm in diameter
  • Solder-free for a cold weld air-tight interface between the plug and conductor or grub screw contact for DIY enthusiasts.

Atlas Achromatic Z Plugs

Atlas’s expert electro-mechanical knowledge has led to the innovation of the next generation of banana plugs known as the ‘Atlas Achromatic Z Plug’, Atlas has focused on improving performance to create a higher performance starting point for their speaker cables as well as eliminating variability in performance. This has been achieved by refocusing on materials and the assembly processes.

Atlas has made 4 key changes with the Achromatic Z plug. Firstly, the barrel of the Achromatic Z plug features a high stability ABS material. This is strong, stable and of superlative surface quality.

In addition, there is also an improvement to the plug's contact resistance achieved by improving the compliance of the beryllium copper contact leaves featured on the Achromatic Z plug. Beryllium copper offers excellent conductivity of signals.

The third change was to upgrade the manufacturability of the plug for pneumatic tool processing.

Finally, there is a reduction in the overall mass of the Z-Plug by 35%, which has been shown to improve signal transmission.

The above changes mean a solder-free, low mass, self-cleaning, recyclable Z-plug with a non-conductive body.

Oxygen Free Copper (OFC)

OFC is produced through an extrusion process which takes place in an oxygen-free-inert-gas atmosphere. This leads to a reduced oxygen content (10 ppm) when compared to Tough Pitch Copper (TPC) and an improvement in conductivity which typically measures in at between 0.5% and 2% greater than TPC. The OFC process therefore produces a much higher quality audio cable than the TPC process. High purity conductors sound clearer than their unprocessed (TPC) counterparts because there are fewer crystal boundaries present to cause signal degradation.

PTFE Dielectric

PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) is cheap to produce and, as such, is the most commonly used insulation in AV cables. However, PVC is the worst quality insulation a Hi-Fi or AV signal can encounter as its high loss causes a significant reduction in signal velocity. PVC is better suited to power cables and should be avoided in Hi-Fi and AV signal cables.

Other dielectrics in common use are Polyethylene, Polypropylene and Polytetrafluoride Epoxy (better known as PTFE (Teflon™) or Teflon,) and the new and unique Atlas (PTFE).

PTFE (Teflon™) is usually applied at higher temperatures and in combination with OFC conductors. OCC materials don’t like high temperatures (soldering, applying the dielectric etc) so application of a low temperature PTFE (Teflon™) or FEP work best with OCC conductors. This is especially critical at smaller conductor sizes.

The table below shows the properties of a selection of dielectrics. Though not used as a dielectric in Atlas' cables, PVC is included for comparison purposes.

Termination

This cable is custom-made according to customer's specific requirements as selected by the various dropdown options above. Future Shop can terminate your speaker cable using the Atlas Achromatic Z Plugs (Banana/BFA), the Atlas’ Gold Plated 4mm banana/BFA Z-Plugs or gold-plated spade Plugs. Cables are professionally terminated using a cold-weld method by Future Shop's engineers and guaranteed for ten years. The plugs are put on using a cold weld method with an official tool supplied by Atlas. Cold-welding does not involve solder, which means the plug is crimped around the conductors at 360 degrees' under very high pressure to form an air-tight seal, which prevents the conductors from oxidising. This forms a better contact than soldering. Furthermore, the conductor is in full contact with the plug, which is in 360-degree contact with the binding post of your equipment, which means the signal flow is maximised from the cable into your equipment.

How to Order

From the dropdown menus' above, simply select the length of cable, the type of plugs required at the ‘Amplifier end’ and ‘Speaker end’ and click on the 'Add to Basket' button to add the item to your basket. Enhance Your Experience: Free Cable Burn-In Service with Nordost VIDAR Machine

Please take note of the following details regarding our cable burn-in service:

  • Cable Compatibility: We regret to inform you that we cannot burn-in cables with stripped bare ends or BFA plugs. In order for cables to undergo the burn-in process, they should be terminated or have connectors.
  • Timing: Cables will be burnt in for the selected period after processing your order. For custom-length cables, the burn-in process will occur after they have been terminated by the manufacturer or our engineers unless specified otherwise in the product description.
  • Availability: Future Shop provides our cable burn-in service free of charge, but its availability is at our discretion. While we strive to fulfil all burn-in requests for the specified time periods, please understand that during exceptionally busy periods, we may be unable to meet the demand due to limited connections on the Nordost Vidar cable conditioning machines.

The Nordost VIDAR cable burn-in machine integrates three key functions into one operation:

  1. Charge Neutralisation: It eliminates charges that accumulate around the cables and their insulation, ensuring a more balanced electrical environment.
  2. Deep Conditioning: The machine provides a wide band and deep conditioning process that affects the conductor core, resulting in changes to the signal transmission through the metal. This deep conditioning enhances the cable's performance.
  3. Ultrasonic Surface Conditioning: The VIDAR machine utilizes ultrasonic waves to condition the surface of the conductors, optimizing their contact and overall conductivity.

The VIDAR employs a proprietary combination of composite and complex signals to condition the cables. These signals comprise ultra-low and ultra-high frequencies, extending beyond the range of video frequencies. The signal moves back and forth along the cable, penetrating deep into the core with ultra-low frequencies and traversing the surface with ultra-high frequencies. This transmission method generates beat harmonics between the two complex waveforms, which permeate all layers of the cable. The circuitry of the VIDAR also drives electrons from the conductor into the insulation area, neutralizing electrical charges.

Nordost Vidar Burn-in Machine

So, what does this all mean for you?

The ultimate outcome of conditioning cables with the Nordost VIDAR is improved sound staging, increased detail, and an overall more musical presentation in your audio system.

Now, you may wonder why cable burn-in is necessary. During cable manufacturing, gasses become trapped as insulation is applied over the conductors. Additionally, new cables often possess high electrical charges, resulting in a brittle and bright sound that lacks the desired detail and depth for music production.

When cables undergo burn-in, the trapped gasses are dissipated, and small impurities in the conductor metals begin to exhibit diode-like behaviour, favouring current flow in a specific direction.

Here are the physical effects of the burn-in process:

  • Charge Neutralisation: The burn-in process neutralizes charges in the conductors and insulation, promoting a more balanced electrical environment.
  • Wide Bandwidth Frequencies: The conditioning affects how signals pass through the metal, enabling a wider range of frequencies to penetrate all cable layers.
  • Signal Transmission: The burn-in process establishes the directionality of the cable, optimizing signal transmission from one end to the other.

When cables are properly burnt in, you can expect the following audible changes in your audio system:

  • Fuller and Natural Sound: Your system should be capable of producing a more immersive and realistic performance with a fuller and more natural sound.
  • Increased Detail: You may notice enhanced details and nuances in the music, allowing you to perceive subtle elements that were previously hidden.
  • Improved Soundstage: The dimensionality of your system's soundstage can be greatly improved, creating a more spacious and immersive listening experience.

At Future Shop, our goal is to maximise your satisfaction. That's why we offer a free burn-in service on all our cables before they arrive at your door, enabling you to sit back and enjoy the benefits of properly conditioned cables in your audio system.

"Sound" Upgrade
29 Sep 2024
Over the last few years, I have gradually upgraded my system. I have an Exposure 3510 amplifier and Spendor A4 speakers and needed a speaker cable that primarily would not alter the tone of the combination and would be an improvement over my old but decent 1.5 mm2 copper cable.

I quickly realised I needed to narrow the choice, so I contacted Tony Brady at Exposure for his recommendations. He informed me that Exposure recommends Chord and Atlas cables. After further research, I chose the Atlas Hyper 3.5 Speaker Cable in 7 m lengths with Achromatic Z Plugs and 96-hour burn as the most cost-appropriate choice.

I am very happy with how they sound. The wonderful tone is retained but with greater clarity and definition. The sound stage, too, has improved and seems more three-dimensional.

The cables arrived promptly and were burnt in, so there was no 4-day wait!

Many thanks to Nigel and the team from Future Shop.

Just what I wanted from a cable

I'm not a fan of altering the sound.... high-quality copper has always given the best results. I tried the silver-plated stuff once, and it wasn't very good.

The most recent cable from AudioQuest FLX/SLiP 14/4, which I was happy with, but I knew it was holding back. So I can't imagine replacing the Hyper anytime soon...it doesn't seem to hold back at all, and it won't forgive bad records, which Is what I want....honesty.

Atlas Hyper 3.5 Speaker Cable
12 Nov 2022
Verified Buyer
I wanted new speaker cables to compliment my new small Spendor speakers. I contacted Spendor, who suggested all copper cables, and Gary at Future Shop suggested Atlas Hyper 3.5. The cables were received after being supplied directly from Atlas with Achromatic Z Plugs and then burnt in for 96 hours.

In combination with the new small Spendors, they sound really good. Lower-level details are more obvious, and voices are clearer (I’m no audiophile, so that’s about as technical as it gets). However, I can say that it is a step up from my previous Chord ClearwayX cables, not by a huge amount, but enough to justify the extra cost.

Thank you, Gary and the team at Future Shop, for your help and advice.

Having been into Hi-Fi for at least 40 years, I have tried this and tried that.

I previously used an AudioQuest Type 2 cable, which is not old or worn. It's about six years old.

The soundstage has opened up so vastly I'm considering toeing my speakers differently, but I will allow some time first.

The AudioQuest is a good cable, not detecting any sound restriction, but it did restrict airiness in many cases. Headroom enhancement is an understatement.

Excellent Cables!
12 Aug 2022
Verified Buyer
I recently auditioned and purchased Tellurium Q ultra black RCA interconnects x 2 (for Vinyl and cd). I thought there might be scope for similar sonic improvement by upgrading my speaker cables. I wasn't prepared to pay for a similar loom speaker cable (TQ Ultra Black speaker cable was outside my budget)) but auditioned the 'Black 2' cable and the 'Silver 2'.

In my system, I didn't feel the Black 2 gave a good hike in sound over my existing Rega Duets, though I could have lived with them. The 'Silvers' we're substantially better, in respect of the bass depth, and with a nice extended but sweet treble, but I had concerns over both cable's midrange presentation and, for me, the most important thing, dynamics (they're probably great in other systems)
Therefore researched reviews of alternatives and saw that the Atlas Hyper 3.5 had numerous favourable reviews, mentioning the important 'dynamics' and 'lack of harshness at the top, Both areas where I felt my existing cables could be bettered!

I spoke to Gary, who was extremely helpful, and I decided on 2 x 5.5 m of Hyper 3.5 with the burn-in option and the Achromatic z plug terminations.

Initial impressions? Probably a typical response. Not sure! (one gets used to the sound signature of existing gear) but thought, wait, system cold, and let them run in. Glad I wasn't hasty. These cables are the best that I've Auditioned in terms of their neutrality (no hyped top end), the bass is engagingly full but tight, and I have excellent dynamics and micro-dynamics.

As Gary said, the cables encourage the turning up of the volume because that doesn't seem to cause an increase in top-end harshness, which may afflict lesser cables.

Conclusion. These are keepers! Enjoying everything I play through them. The best I've heard of my old albums. Thanks go to Gary and Futureshop.

No Longer A Cable Denier
14 Feb 2022
Verified Buyer
I've long been an avid denier of cable size and construction matters, so I really bought the Atlas Hyper 3.5 speaker cable as a dare to prove that this sort of thing is more placebo than actual fact.

Whether it's a fact or not, I still can't say with any sort of scientific certainty, but what I do know and what my ears are telling me is that I definitely do hear a marked improvement to the sound my speakers are producing. The sound stage is wider, basses deeper, stereo placement of instruments is far better defined and albums I've been listening to, for literally decades, sound better than ever before.

As advertised

Among the best customer service out there. Super helpful advice. Smooth delivery to NZ, thank you.

My previous QED XT40’s are great value, but these Atlas hyper 3.5’s produce a very noticeable step up in performance in my set-up (lumin u1 mini, curious USB, black ice DAC, QED reference interconnect, Yamaha as1100, excite x34’s, svs sb1000pro, low frequency treated room).

Compared to the XT40’s my primary impression is of a greater cohesion in the soundstage, which leads to a more relaxed presentation. They shine across the frequency spectrum, but the mids are particularly lovely with heft.

Bottom line, very much worth it for me for the greater musical enjoyment. I opted for burn-in.

Now I know is meant by depth!

I recently stepped up into the hifi realm by buying a pair of Focal Sopra No two speakers and Hegel H390 amp. My system is in a large open plan living area, so the cable run for the speakers is 12 metres. I had been using domestic speaker cable but, at the suggestion of Adam at Futureshop, bought the Atlas Hyper 3.5. The difference in sound quality was striking - improved definition, clarity, dynamics, and depth. I never knew what was meant by depth, but now I’ve heard it. I guess it is the ability to discern micro-dynamics. I highly recommend this cable.

Atlas all the way
15 Apr 2021
Verified Buyer
I’m an exclusive user of Altas cables for the last 20 years. And I intend to use Atlas cables for all the coming years too! Quite simply, the Hyper 3.5 lets all the audio signal pass through to your speakers. It does so in an audibly unrestrained way and seemingly doesn’t add to or remove anything from the audio signal. Technically, it’s the optimal gauge/thickness for the typical lengths used in the home (for me 2 x 4 metres) as it’s sufficiently thick to pass the full frequency spectrum of the signal while at the same time avoiding unwanted ‘skin effects’ that can plague super thick cables! (Skin effect is when the signal travels on the outer circumference of the cable conductor instead of through the entire section of the cable conductor. Skin effect negatively affects sound quality). The copper conductor purity is high and a good dielectric is used, and in my experience, by avoiding the use of different combined metals in the conductors, this contributes to a natural and organic delivery. This cable doesn’t add a false ethereal air, or brightness, or forwardness to the audio signal. It’s a neutral cable that isn’t dull and doesn’t rob audio of natural life and energy. If you have good equipment (or not so good equipment) this cable will reveal it truthfully. If your system has good (or bad) dynamics, detail, speed, timing, tonality, control of syballants, openness, body/weight, poise, etc. then this cable will show you without frills or fuss.

The new ‘achromatic’ terminations are of excellent quality and make a great contact with your equipment. As a tip, if you find your system throws out too much bass (even when your speakers are positioned as optimally as possible), then go for the thinner Hyper 2.0 (or even thinner Hyper 1.5), which may just temper the lower frequency output. Otherwise, the Hyper 3.5 comes highly recommended.

Recent upgrade - what a difference!
4 Feb 2021
Verified Buyer
Upgrade from 20 year old QED with purchase of Naim Uniti Nova, run with Spendor D7 speakers. Huge difference with more neutral sound, loss of top-end brightness and pleasing depth to base and mid-range.

A very worthwhile investment. Thanks too for the advice from the FutureShop team!

Atlas Hyper 3.5 speaker cables. Excellent transparecy.
4 Feb 2021
Verified Buyer
I ordered an Atlas Hyper 3.5 speaker cable, for my AV system centre channel, from Future Shop as a trial and was blown away. I contacted Future Shop and after speaking to them, ordered the left and right speaker cables for use in my AV system and my Linn stereo system, and again I was blown away.

Transparency and clarity are the things that I noticed immediately, performers seem to be there in front of you. And after listening for a while the music just seemed to blend together better than before.

I can definitely recommend Atlas Hyper 3.5 speaker cable and the Future Shop for their advice and price. I would definitely use them for cables in the future.

Atlas Hyper 3.5 have transformed my listening experience
28 Jan 2021
Verified Buyer
Upgraded my cables from Naim ones and the difference has blown me away. Atlas Hyper 3.5 were designed and tested with transparency on Naim systems in mind and these meet that goal and more. Not only do they provide more neutrality, the wider soundstage and the separation of instruments is delightful. It feels like I am listening to live music again (if anyone remembers what that is!).

Futureshop were incredibly helpful in advising on cable lengths, without any of the hype, as I have a 7 metre run to one speaker and a 2 metre distance to the other. We went with 7m and 3.5m lengrhs on the basis that for a mid-range system like mine, any impedence effect would not be noticeable as long as the lengths differed by no more than 50%.

System: Naim Supernait amp, Naim NDX streamer, Spendor D7 speakers, Rega Planar 8

Transparent speaker cable exceeded my expectation.

Verified Buyer
I have a Denon AV system and a Linn music system. Both systems share Focal Aria 926 speakers and I just swap the speaker cables over to whatever system I am listening to. I also have a Focal centre speaker for the AV system.

I recently added Bluesound Node 2i streamer which I use on both systems. This highlighted that the AV and the Linn systems were a bit bright and harsh at higher volumes with this streamer. I decided to explore a change of speaker cables and read reviews of many types (QED, Chord and Atlas Hyper 3.5). As I often use the AV amp in surround mode, even when listening to the Node 2i, I decided to buy a one metre Hyper 3.5 cable for my centre speaker as a trial. I ordered this terminated from Future Shop.

When it arrived, and after a few days listening, I was simply blown away. The experienced gains exceeded what I was expecting. The improvement was significant. My listening experience improved no end. Everything was more focused and life like. You could more easily follow musical rhythms and the level of detail was much improved. It was more like listening to a performance than a recording. My TV and Blue Ray viewing experience was also much improved. A week later, and after speaking to the Future Shop, I ordered two lengths of Hyper 3.5 for my left and right speakers which I will also use with my Linn music system. I again ordered these cables terminated from Future Shop and this time specified a 96 hour burn in.

I can't wait for them to arrive and experience the improvement in my Linn system, especially with the turntable (LP12/Ekos/Klyde).

I would definitely recommend this cable and the Future Shop for their advice.

Excellent service quickly delivered even though ordered just a few days before christmas. Gary responded to emails requesting advice promptly.

The cable made a very significant improvement to the sound. I am not very good at describing sound but bass and sound stage seemed much improved.

I was intrigued by how much difference the cable made would of liked the opportunity to try different options at home with my system to see which cable I preferred but will probably just stick with the Atlas as they are good but the doubt remains could another cable be even better!

Cables made positive musical upgrade to my audio system

Excellent cables. They are used to replace the Tellerium Q cables in my audio setup. After a week's burn-in (plus 96 hours at Futureshop). Could easily tell music playback sounded more balanced and natural from the same setup. Not bright sounding and with good bass definition. Able to listen more into the instruments playing in the background than before.

Overall, I am very happy with the cables' performance which made has made positive musical improvement to my system.

Thank you Future Shop.

Cannot Over Emphasise How Good This Cable is.
3 Apr 2020
Verified Buyer
Future Shops Gary was spot on in recommending the Atlas Hyper 3.5 Speaker Cable for a Chord DAC, Roskan Caspian 2 amp and Focal Aria floor standing speaker setup. The system with my AudioQuest silver coated cables was detailed but to bright with understated base.

Now with 50 hours play time the Atlas continues to improve; brightness is abolished, base has tight substance, clarity with detail as the sound stage improved for sure and all this without any addition of coloration to the systems output. Cannot over emphasise how good this cable is.

Excellent cables. I bougtht these cables to replace the QED X-Tube XT-400 speaker cables (which are now part from the secondary audio setup).

What can I tell is that the sound is more natural, no trace of brightness. Detailed and warm sound.

Thank you Future Shop.

My set is Naim SX Int. Amp., Primare CD22 CD Player, Spendor S3/5 r2 SE Speaker.

At first, I wanted to upgrade the speaker cable from QED Silver Anniversary XT to Tellurium Q Black II, but Tellurium Q can't ship to HK, I was advised by Gary at Future Shop to buy Atlas Hyper 3.5 Speaker.

Nearly a month and they are better and better day by day, Although Hyper 3.5 as there is pure copper, I surprised they are open ,transparent and more detail compare with my Old cable.

Thanks Gray, Thanks Future Shop, Good Service

Very good speaker cables
20 Jun 2019

Very good speaker cables. I bought new speaker cables 2 x2,5m Atlas Hyper 3.5 with Atlas Tin-Cobalt Z-plugs. My set is Exposure 3010s2D amp and CD with Pro-Ject 2Experience, 2M Bronze. All connecting cables are Atlas Hyper Integra. Old loudspeaker cables were Linn with Linn's cheaplooking plastic plugs. I did order cables only with a 48-hour burn. I have linstened 'em only for 2 weeks now, so they are getting still better by the day. Improvement for the old is significant, well worth the money spent. I was not expecting this, I thought Linn cables were pretty good ones and working well in my set. Of course, Linn cables were only a third of the cost of these Atlas ones, so no reason to slag em too much. Now you can really hear whats going on at the recording. Like it! It's like hearing some of the old records for the first time. The new standard and level for my music listening has been set. Wow, double wow!

Thank you Futureshop.

Futureshop is the place!

Atlas Hyper 3.5 speaker cables. Fabulous.

Atlas Hyper 3.5 speaker cables. Fabulous.. These Atlas Hyper 3.5 cables are stunning. They are very transparent and open. My old cables were Qed XT40s which were very good. As I've recently upgraded my speakers to Spendor A4s which are fabulous I wanted to change the cables. I tried some Qed Xt400 from Future Shop, although were had a 96 hour burn in they were too bright and the treble was sometimes ear piercing and uncomfortable to listen to. After a couple of weeks I decided to return them. I was then advised by the guys at Future Shop to try Atlas Hyper cables as there is no silver in them, just pure copper giving a more cultured and sophisticated sound. I bit the bullet and ordered these Atlas Hyper 3.5s terminated and with a 96 hour burn in.

WOW, I've had these nearly a month now and they still are getting better and better. Seriously I'm so impressed, the last piece of the jigsaw. No harshness just pure class, I recommend these cables to anyone, although not cheap they are stunning.
I also bought some Atlas Hyper Intergra RCA cables, another WOW..My cds are that much more refined.

By the way, my amp and CD player are Roksan Kandy K3s and this combination of Atlas Hyper cables have tamed my Amp, pure quality.

Thanks Future Shop, great service.

Don't Hesitate to get this cable
1 May 2019
Verified Buyer
Don't Hesitate to get this cable. Thannks to Adam for his advice steering me towards this cable, bought with 96 hours burn in, this cable has tightened up the stereo image, all aspects and frequencies are better defined, more authoritive and just more.

Better treble, hearing things not heard before, more midrange, nutural real sounding, and more bass more heft without boom. I upgraded from a previous cable which was good but this just kills it, more of everything except harshness where there is none, all the frequencies audible but controlled with space and a sublim smooth top end.

If you'te thinking about this cable, don't just buy it, you will not be dissappointed!

Thankyou Futureshop.
