Atlas Element (Basic) 1.25 Black Speaker Cable - Custom Length
This cable is professionally terminated by Future Shops specialist engineers with more than 12 years of experience. All components and tooling used by Future Shops engineers have been sourced from Atlas Cables to ensure consistent manufacturing to the highest standard. Future Shop will honour Atlas' 10 year warranty with all of their cables terminated by our engineers.
The Atlas Element 1.25 Basic is well suited as an upgrade for high quality compact systems or for rear channel speakers in a 5.1 set-up. The Atlas Element 1.25 contains 1.25mm² of stranded OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) contained in a high density polyethylene dielectric (insulation layer), unusual at this price point where PVC is much more common. Low quality dielectrics such as PVC typically degrade the music signal by imposing a characteristic blurring on the sound.

Atlas Gold Plated Z Plugs
The Atlas Z plug has stood the test of time. Using beryllium copper for the contact area, It's designed to make a 100% contact within the 4mm female socket. The body is made from copper and it's available for home assembly with grub screws to make contact with the conductors. When factory fitted or fitted by an Atlas appointed custom cable centre, they're cold welded under pressure in order to amalgamate the conductors to the plug in an air tight seal. The outer sleeve is finished in black coloured ABS or in a turned brass with a fine oven applied powder coat finish. The Atlas Z plug is justifiably considered to be one of best 4mm plugs available.

Oxygen Free Copper (OFC)
OFC is produced through an extrusion process which takes place in an oxygen-free-inert-gas atmosphere. This leads to a reduced oxygen content (10 ppm) when compared to Tough Pitch Copper (TPC) and an improvement in conductivity which typically measures in at between 0.5% and 2% greater than TPC. The OFC process therefore produces a much higher quality audio cable than the TPC process. High purity conductors sound clearer than their unprocessed (TPC) counterparts because there are fewer crystal boundaries present to cause signal degradation.

PEF Dielectric
PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride) is cheap to produce and, as such, is the most commonly used insulation in AV cables. However, PVC is the worst quality insulation a Hi-Fi or AV signal can encounter as its high loss causes a significant reduction in signal velocity. PVC is better suited to power cables and should be avoided in Hi-Fi and AV signal cables.
Other dielectrics in common use are Polyethylene, Polypropylene and Polytetrafluoride Epoxy (better known as PTFE (Teflon™) or Teflon,) and the new and unique Atlas (PTFE).
HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) has a more close-packed structure compared to its more flexible cousin LDPE (Low Density PE) and excels in its durability.
The table below shows the properties of a selection of dielectrics. Though not used as a dielectric in Atlas' cables, PVC is included for comparison purposes.

Termination
Future Shop can terminate your speaker cable using either Atlas’ gold-plated 4mm banana/BFA Z-Plugs or spade Plugs. Cables are professionally terminated using a cold-weld method by Future Shop's engineers and guaranteed for 10 years. The plugs are put on using a cold weld method with an official tool supplied by Atlas. Cold-welding does not involve solder and means the plug is crimped around the conductors at 360 degrees' under very high pressure to form an air tight seal which prevents the conductors from oxidising. This forms a better contact than soldering. Furthermore, the conductor is in full contact with the plug, and the plug is in 360-degree contact with the binding post of your equipment which means signal flow is maximised from the cable into your equipment.
How to Order
From the dropdown menus' above, simply select the length of cable, the type of plugs required at the ‘Amplifier end’ and ‘Speaker end’ and click on the 'Add to Basket' button to add the item to your basket. Your cable will be dispatched as soon as it has been made by Future Shop's or the manufacturer’s engineers and has completed the specified burn-in process (if any), subject to Future Shop’s Terms & Conditions and stock availability.

A high quality, small cross section cable.

I purchased this cable for a DIY DML speaker. I wanted a thin, light cable that was still decent quality in sound and appearance. It connects an audio exciter to the binding posts. I didn’t want a heavy cable hanging off the excitern (I only mounted the exciter to the panel, no spine).
The cable's stiffness makes it virtually self-supporting, and the curve of the cable (approx 2 feet long) looks identical on both speakers because the cables are very visible. They had to look right. They don’t place much strain on the spade connectors, and the rectangular/square cross-section is smart.
I would recommend this cable. It works perfectly for the application I’ve used it for. It sounds more revealing than the thin ordinary OFC cable it replaced.
I think it would be a good choice as a budget cable in a lot of systems. The only possible downside is the stiffness may make tight corners awkward if following skirting for surround speakers etc.
